OAK PARK AND RIVER FOREST HIGH SCHOOL

201 NORTHSCOVILLEAVENUE'OAKPARK. IL 60302-2296

August, 2013
Dear Parent or Guardian:

As you may know, the federal No Child Left: Behind Act requires each school in the nation to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) toward the goal of all students meeting or exceeding Illinois learning standards. Each year, the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE) or an alternate assessment is administered to determine the proficiency of all Juniors. To achieve AYP, the class as a whole and numerous subgroups identified by ethnicity, income level, disability, and English language proficiency must meet certain targets in Reading and in Math. The AYP target for
2012-2013 was set at 92.5%.

On the state testing that was administered this past April, Oak Park and River Forest High School students did not meet the proficiency target in reading and math. In reading, this was the case for the Black student subgroup. In math, this was the case for the overall group, the Black student subgroup, and the economically disadvantaged subgroups. As a consequence. Oak Park and River Forest High School has failed to make AYP for nine years and according to Federal Status, is in Restructuring Implementation as a meems for corrective action. In addition to offering public school choice and supplemental education services, restructuring options might include reopening as a charter school, replace all or most of the staff, enter into a contract with an entity, state takeover, or implement any other major restructuring of the school's governance. District 200 is aggressively pursuing other options to assist students who are not meeting state standards. In addition to the summer progremis for students transitioning fi-om grades 8-9 and 9-10 to help them meet the standards. Oak Park and River Forest High School offers a variety of tutoring and skill building courses throughout the regular school year. We are also working diligently to improve the curriculum for our students. Please contact your child's guidance counselor for further information about these opportunities. The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress to offer students and parents the option to attend a school that has made Adequate Yearly Progress, and to pay for related transportation. Consistent with the Act, we are making a good faith effort to determine whether any of our neighboring school districts qualify and are willing to accept any of our students for Choice purposes. Currently, no neighboring district has entered into an appropriate arrangement with District 200 and since OPRFHS is a single school district, there is no school within the district to which your child can transfer. If a neighboring district is willing to accept students from Oak Park and River Forest High School, we will contact you immediately. Please note that the priority for transfer will be given to the lowest achieving children firom low-income families first. All transfers will be voluntary. You may access our school report card and AYP report at www.isbe.state.il.us. Go to the "Report Card" link under AZ Index at the top of the page. On the eReport Card public site, click on Interactive Illinois Report card found on the left margin. In the box for the school, type in Oak Park & River Forest High School. This will give you AYP information as well as other important educational and demographic information about your child's school. If you are unable to access the internet, please contact the Principal's OfiBce at 708-434-3205 and a copy of the report will be sent to your home.
