Power Consumption
The OE power consumption (not including the IDUs hosted within the enclosure and the ODUs powered by the IDUs) is 16 W, when only the internal fans are installed and 30 W when the external fans are also installed. When the internal heater is installed and functioning, another 250 W will be consumed. The total power consumption of the IDUs installed in the enclosure (not including the ODUs powered by the IDUs) must not exceed 90 W, when only the internal fans are installed and 200 W when the external fans are also installed. Total power consumption, including IDUs, ODUs and the enclosure must not exceed 800 W.

Thermal Management
The temperature range covered exceeds the temperature range of -50C through +550 C for which the IDUs are designed. Higher temperatures are managed using internal fans, and, when available, external fans. Lower temperatures are managed using a heating device. A temperature sensor, located on the control board, controls the starting and stopping of the fans and/or heater.

Heat Dissipation, Internal Fans

Two internal fans (80x80x38 mm, 48 V, 0.16 A, 4900 rpm, 68.51 CFM at zero air flow -Delta FFB0848SHE or equivalent) ensure heat dissipation, when needed. There are three wires per fan: two for power and one is a run/stop indicator, which starts an alarm. Note: The alarm of a fan that is not supposed to operate is masked. When the temperature inside the enclosure reaches 8oC, the fans start working. When the temperature inside the enclosure drops to 2oC, the fans stop working. The internal fans give a heat dispersion of 90 W, which is usually sufficient for the current IDU models. However, this may not be enough for IDU models of the future or for installations in very hot climates. For such conditions, backpack external fans can be installed, enabling to dissipate heat of 200-250 W. The controller board includes Fan failed indication LEDs.

Heat Dissipation, External Fans

Two external fans, (92x92x25.4 mm, 48 V, 0.14 A, 6.72 W, 3200 RPM, 70.21 CFM at zero air flow, weather-protected IP55 Delta FFB0948HH or equivalent) can be installed. When the temperature inside the enclosure reaches 25oC, the fans start working. When the temperature inside the enclosure drops to 19oC, the fans stop working.

Heating System
In very cold climates, it may be necessary to install one or two heaters. Each heater module's specifications are 48 V, 250 W SAIP's 04640.2. When the temperature inside the enclosure drops below -6oC, the heater(s) start working. When the temperature inside the enclosure reaches 0oC, the heater(s) stop working. Note: In the temperature range at which the heaters function, the fans are not in operation. If they were, the functionality of the heater would be reduced as the generated heat would be blown out of the enclosure. Note: Fans and heaters can be fed from either Power A or Power B.
