was continued by Seth Gordhandas and Seth Narayandas by the establishment of the Ruparel College in Mumbai; a sister institution of the Wadia College which the Wadia brothers, Sir Cusrow and Sir Ness helped the Society to establish in Pune. The College situated in the Metropolitan City of Mumbai, is the only College of its kind that can boast of having a spacious campus with clean and green environment. It is located opposite Matunga Road Station (W. R.) and is a few minutes walk from Shivaji Park. The campus, known as the Ruparel College campus has Arts, Science, Library, Gymkhana and Canteen buildings, Boys Hostel, Principals bungalow, two Vice Principal bungalows and the Administrative building. The New Law College functions from the Arts building of the Ruparel College. Junior College (Higher Secondary) classes started functioning with the Degree College in 1975. In 1980, various bi-focal Vocational courses were introduced at the +2 stage. At present, Electronics, Computer Science and Electrical Maintenance are offered at the +2 stage. In 1988 89, Minimum Competency Vocational Course (MCVC) was introduced. The new Three Year Degree course was introduced by the University of Mumbai in 1977. The Commerce faculty was introduced in the College in 1979 80 and the first batch of T. Y. B. Com. students appeared in 1983. The College has completed more than fifty five years of glorious service in the field of academics, sports, performing arts and other extra curricular activities. The College, affiliated to the University of Mumbai has gathered the reputation and social recognition over the years as an institution second to none, a fact that is more than adequately proven by commendable performance of our students at the Higher Secondary Board and University examinations; I.I.T., Engineering, Medical and Management joint entrance examinations. About fifty percent of students in the merit list of H.S.C. examination are from our College. For the last 30 years we are successfully running the Brihanmumbai Centre for Talent Search (BCTS), which aims at young talent from schools and colleges to prepare for competitive examinations such as National Talent Search (NTS), Pre-medical Test (PMT) and I. I. T.s JEE. More than 2000 students of this centre have secured the coveted NTS scholarships in the past 30 years.

The College located on a campus admeasuring 40, 217 square metres owes its pre-eminence in the sphere of education to Seth Gordhandas Jadavji Ruparel and his younger brother Seth Narayandas Jadavji Ruparel of Messrs Doongarsee Gangjee and Sons, Mumbai. In grateful appreciation of their generous and profound interest in our institution, it was named The Doongarsee Gangjee Ruparel College. Their father Seth Jadavji Doongarsee and uncle Seth Lalji Doongarsee, who had close association in business with Messrs Nowrosjee Wadia and Sons

The College has produced a number of luminaries in the field of academics, sports and extra curricular activities. Padmavibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission; Shri Anil Joshi, MD, Dena Bank; Shri Subhash Dandekar, Chairman, Camlin Industry; Padmashree Padmaja - Phenani Joglekar (Vocalist), Shri Gajanan Pendharkar, MD, Vicco Laboratories, Shri Ajit Agarkar, Ramesh Powar (cricket), Miss Urmila Matondkar (Film star), Shri Ashok Hande (Stage Artist) are some few in a forest of luminaries. The College has set its goals and objectives in tune with the aspirations of our students vis a vis the needs and expectations of the society. We strive to impart quality education to our students and encourage them to participate in various co and extra curricular activities to bring out the best of their talents so as to enrich their multidimensional personality development in the modern world of 21st century. At present the College admits students for certain Post Graduate Courses for M.Sc. by Paper & by Research and Ph.D. Degree in subjects Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. OFFICE HOURS
The College Office shall ordinarily be open on all working days between 10.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. All cash transactions will be attended to between 10.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. The office will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.

HOLIDAYS
The College shall remain closed (a) on Sundays and public holidays as declared by the Government; (b) on holidays prescribed by the University both for the long vacations and for the Christmas break, (c) on such other days as the Principal may declare from time to time. (These will be announced on the Notice Board).

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR RAILWAY CONCESSION


i) Students will be issued railway concesion forms for Season tickets from the station nearest to their residence and Matunga Road (W. R) Station. Residential address given on the admission form will be taken as valid for this concession. It cannot be changed during the course of the year.

PAYMENT OF FEES
1. Students should pay the prescribed fees to the Accounts Section or Special Counters opened for the purpose at the time of admission to the F. Y. J. C. (Arts / Science/ Commerce) and F. Y. B. A. / B. Sc. / B. Com. / B. M. S. / B. Sc. (I. T.) classes. Schedule of fees (Degree and Junior College) will be displayed on the College Notice Board. Fees will be accepted in Cash / Cheque for both the Junior & the Degree College. Fees should be paid at the authorised counter only.

Guardians should ensure that they obtain a stamped receipt immediately after any payment is made. Care should be taken to ensure that payments are not made to unauthorised persons. The College will not be responsible for any lapse in this matter. Reserve Category Students must fill the Freeship / Scholarship forms as per the schedule displayed on the Notice Board. Eligible Reserve Category students will be exempted from paying full regular fees. The proposal will be sent to the Social Welfare Department, Government of Maharashtra for its sanction. They will be required to pay the Fees not sanctioned by the Social Welfare Department in the Second Term.

REFUND OF FEES JUNIOR COLLEGE


a. If a Student informs the institution before the commencement of the academic year that he/she wants to withdraw and he/she cannot continue his/her education in the same institution for any reason, the institution concerned should refund to him/her in full the tuition fee, term fee, laboratory fee (if any) and library and laboratory deposits, if any actually recovered. The admission fee may, however, be retained by the Institution. EXPLANATION : So far as the F.Y.J.C. classes are concerned the academic year should be deemed to have commenced from the eighth day (i.e. excluding Sundays and Public Holidays) from and including the days of declaration of the S.S.C. Examination Result. If the said day of declaration of results is a working day, OR from and including the working day immediately following the day of declaration of the S.S.C. Examination result if the said /date of declaration of results is a Sunday or a Public Holiday. b. If a student desires to withdraw and applies for refund of fees after the commencement of the academic year (vide explanation under (a) above) the institution concerned should retain the admission fee, term fee and laboratory fee (if any) in full. The library and laboratory deposits should however be refunded. So far as the tuition fee is concerned the institution should retain the tuition fee only for the month (s) beginning from the month in which the academic

year had commenced and ending with the month in which the student had applied for withdrawal of admission or refund of fees. The tuition fees for the remaining months of the term should be refunded (For example, if a student applies for refund of fees in the month of July, after the academic year has commenced in that month itself, the Institution should retain the proportionate amount of tuition fees for one month only, namely the month of July. On the other hand, if a student applies for refund of fees in the month of August, after the academic year has commenced in the month of July, the institution should retain the proportionate amount of tuition fee for two months only, namely the month of July & August. If a student applies for refund of fees in the month of August after the academic year has commenced in the month of June, the institution should retain the proportionate amount of tuition fee for three months only, namely the months of June, July, August.)

DEGREE COLLEGE RULES FOR REFUND OF FEES:


The Rules (Ordinance 2859) relating to refund of fees after cancellation of admission as per the University of Mumbai Circular No. UG/412 of 2008 dated 11.09.2008 is given below: The candidates who have taken admission in under graduate courses in aided and unaided courses conducted by affiliated Colleges may request for refund of fees after applying in writing for cancellation of their admission to the course. The refund of fees as applicable shall be made on or before 30th day after the date of cancellation and thereafter.

The percentage of fee for the course shall be refunded to the candidate after deducting charges as follows: Sr No Period 1. Prior to commencement of academic term and instruction of the course. 2. Up to 20 days after the commencement of academic term of the course. 3. From 21st day up to 50 days after commencement of the academic term of the course. 4. From 51st day up to 80 days after the commencement of academic term of the course or 31st August whichever is earlier. 5. From 1st September to 30th September. 6. Note : i) After 30th September. iii) Fees collected for Identity card and Library card, Admission Form and Prospectus, Enrollment and any other course specific fee are not refundable after the commencement of the academic term. iv) All refundable deposits (Laboratory, Caution Money and Library etc.) shall be fully returned at the time of cancellation. Important instructions for Reserve Category student: Eligible Reserve Category students who are admitted to the College on payment of concessional fees prescribed by the University of Mumbai are informed that, on cancellation of admission they will be required to pay additional amount depending on the period and percentage of deduction charges of the total fees prescribed for the course.

LIBRARY
The College Library has a separate building with spacious Stock Room, Reading halls for Staff, Boys and Girls. The Library has a huge collection of books & journals on a variety of subjects. Students can avail of the Internet facility on payment of nominal charges. Library Rules 1. 2. 3. While entering the library, students should carry their Identity as well as Library cards. Students will ensure that they do not disturb other students in the library. Books are issued for home reading for a period of one week only against a demand slip (duly filled and signed) on days notified for this purpose. Reference Books and prescribed text books kept in the reading hall, Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Atlases and other books classified as reference books must be used in the library only during working hours. A student failing to return books issued for home reading on or before the due date will be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- per day till such time as the book is returned. Students will not be issued more than one book at a time for home reading. While returning books students will ensure that the necessary entry of return is made in his / her presence.

The total amount considered for the refund of fees from the commencement of academic term of the courses includes the following: All the fee items chargeable for one year are as per relevant University circulars for different Faculties.

ii) The fee charged towards group insurance and all fee components to be paid as University share (including Vice-Chancellor fund, University fee for Sports and Cultural activities, E-charge, E-suvidha, Disaster Management Fund, Examination fee and Enrollment fee) are non-refundable if the payment is made by the College to the University prior to the date of cancellation.

Books issued against the Identity Card are for use in the Reading Hall only and must be returned while leaving the library. Disciplinary action will be taken against students violating this rule. Use of Mobile Telephones is strictly prohibited in the Library. Library facilities of the defaulting student will be suspended.

THE COLLEGE GYMKHANA


The College has a well-equipped Gymkhana, which provides the necessary space and equipment for both indoor and outdoor sports, with the ground being modified for specific sports. Being a reputed institution, coaches of repute are associated with our College. The College has a tie-up with external agencies to enable students to avail of their facilities in sports like cricket, swimming, lawn tennis, shooting and badminton. An in-house Shooting Range has been installed in the College for indoor rifle shooting. The College Gymkhana provides above average facilities for most of the games. For indoor games we have a hall of 61.50 x 25.25 for table tennis, a hall of 36 x 10 for carrom and a hall of 24 x 13 for chess. The open ground is used for kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey and soft ball. Our College staff also provides its expertise to the University sports body. The activities of the Gymkhana are governed by the Principal with the assistance of the Gymkhana Chairman, Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff and student representatives.

These Associations organize various programs, exhibitions and competitions at the Collegiate and Inter-collegiate level such as Lectures by eminent personalities, Elocution, Debate, Quiz, Musical programs, stage one act plays etc.

HOSTEL
The College has a Hostel for 70 male students within the College Campus. Hostel fees including services and other charges are to be paid in advance. The students will maintain peace and decorum of the Hostel. Any student involved in the ragging in Hostel will draw severe punishment. Round the clock Security is provided in the Hostel building. The necessary housekeeping services are provided to maintain the entire hostel clean. The College authority will not be responsible for the loss of any personal valuables. The students will not be allowed to stay away from the hostel beyond 10.00 p.m. For detailed Rules and Regulations refer to the Hostel Notice Board.

MEDICAL FACILITY TO THE STUDENTS


The college has arranged a tie-up with the Sushrusha Hospital, Ranade Road, Dadar (West), Mumbai - 400 028 to provide immediate medical attention to the bonafide students and staff members of the college in case of an accident, mishap or any kind of emergency that may take place on the college campus. When such an incident is reported to the college authority, it will admit the student, staff member to the Hospital for immediate medical attention, without undergoing

the normal procedure of cash deposit in the Hospital. The student / staff member will be required to settle/pay the Bills for the medical attention provided by the Hospital.

The following services are available to the students of Junior and Degree college free of cost : Wednesday and Thursday : 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 1. Aptitude Testing is done on request at nominal charges. Workshops and talks on various aspects of personality development are regularly organised.

RULES OF DISCIPLINE
The smooth functioning of the College depends upon observance of discipline by the students. The College can help the students better when Rules of Discipline are observed properly. Violation of these rules deprives the students of the advantages of different facilities provided by the College. Following are some of the important rules of discipline. Parents/Guardians are requested to direct their wards to observe the following Rules of Discipline: 1. Students must attend lectures, practicals, tutorials, etc. as per the Time Table. They must not abstain themselves from classes, practicals, tutorials, examinations etc. without written permission of the Principal. Students whose attendance and/or progress in various tests and examinations is not satisfactory and who do not 5. 6.

perform the required number of tutorials and/or practical are likely to lose their terms. Students who do not submit compulsory project work in subject are likely to lose their term. Prolonged absence even on grounds of ill health may also lead to loss of terms. Defaulters will not be sent up for University Examinations. Employed students will not be given any concession in matters of attendance or rules regarding appearance at College examinations. Suitable disciplinary action will be taken against such students. Employed students must give details of their employment on the admission form. They are expected to take admission after consulting the Principal in this regard. The Identity Card is meant for identifying bonafide students and is used for permitting the student to enter college campus and to participate in various activities and programs of the College. Every student must wear the Identity Card as long as he/she is in the College campus. It must be produced by the student whenever demanded by a member of the teaching or non-teaching staff of the College. He/She must take proper care of it to avoid its misuse by other students and outsiders. In case the Identity Card is lost, the matter should be immediately reported to the Principal and a complaint should be logded to the Police and an application with the photocopy of NC should be submitted for a duplicate Identity Card, which will be issued on payment of charges. The conduct of the students in the classes and in the premises of the College shall be such as will cause no disturbance to teachers, fellow students or other classes. Every student shall wear a clean and decent dress while coming to the College. No Society or Association shall be formed in the College and no person shall be invited on the College campus without the specific permission of the Principal. The Principal has a right to refuse such permission. No student is allowed to display any Notice/Circular/Poster/ Banner in the College premises without the prior permission of the Principal. Strict action will be taken against the defaulters. No student will be allowed to conduct any political activity in the College premises.

Outsiders are not permitted in the College premises without the prior permission of the Principal. College students are not allowed to bring their relatives/friends to the College premises without the prior permission of the Principal. Strict action will be taken against the concerned outsider as well as the College student who is instrumental in bringing outsiders to the College premises. All meetings, cultural programs, debates, elocutions, etc. organized on the College premises must be held in presence of teaching staff members and with the prior permission of the Principal. The subjects of debates/elocutions must have the prior approval of the Principal. Students must take proper care of the College property. Strict action will be taken against the student/s damaging College property and will be required to compensate the damage. Students involved in malpractices at the College / Board / University Examinations will not be admitted to the College. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the College premises. If, for any reason, the continuance of a student in the College is found detrimental to the best interest of the College, the Principal may ask the student to leave the College without assigning any reasons and the decision will be final and binding on the student. Playing music on Transistors, Tape-recorders, Car-stereos, Mobile Telephones or any other similar gadgets with or without earphones is strictly prohibited in the College premises. Defaulters will be punished and their instrument confiscated. Use of Mobile Telephones is strictly prohibited in the academic area of the College which includes Arts and Science buildings, Lecture Halls, Laboratories, Library building, open areas between Arts and Science buildings and in front of the Arts building up to car parking area. Students may use them in Canteen building, Ladies Common Room, Hostel and from car parking area up to Ruby Mill Entrance gate. Defaulters will be penalized and their instrument confiscated. Students must not loiter on the College premises while the classes are at work. Boys found loitering near the Girls Common Room are liable for punishment. Students must not attend classes other than their own without the permission of the authority concerned.

19. Students shall do nothing inside or outside the College that will interfere with the discipline of the College or tarnish the image of the College. 20. Students are not allowed to communicate any information about College matters to the Press. 21. Matters not covered above will be decided at the discretion of the Principal. Acts of misbehavior, misconduct, indiscipline or violation of the Rules of Discipline mentioned above are liable for one or more punishments as stated below : A. B. C. D. Warning to the student. Warning to the student as well as a letter to the parents. Imposition of a fine. Denial of gymkhana, library, laboratory, N.C.C., N. S. S., student aid or any other facility for a specified period or for the complete Term/year. E. Cancellation of Terms. F. Refusal of admission in the next term or academic year. G. Cancellation of admission. H. Expulsion from the College for a specified period. I. Rustication.

PREVENTION OF RAGGING IN THE COLLEGE AND HOSTEL PREMISES:


STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE INFORMED THAT RAGGING IS BANNED AND SHALL BE CONSIDERED AS A SERIOUS OFFENCE WHICH WILL ATTRACT SEVERE PUNISHMENT. Parents are requested to emphasize on their wards the seriousness of the offence and instruct them not to indulge in ragging.

What constitutes Ragging - Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts: a. any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student; b. indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student; c. asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student; d. any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher; e. exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students, f. any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students; g. any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person; h. any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student; i. any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student Action to be taken by the Head of the institution.- On receipt of the recommendation of the Anti Ragging Squad or on receipt of any information concerning any reported incident of ragging, the Head of institution shall immediately determine if a case under the penal laws is made out and if so, either on his own or through

a member of the Anti-Ragging Committee authorised by him in this behalf, proceed to file a First Information Report (FIR), within twenty four hours of receipt of such information or recommendation, with the police and local authorities, under the appropriate penal provisions relating to one or more of the following, namely; i. Abetment to ragging; ii. Criminal conspiracy to rag; iii. Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging; iv. Public nuisance created during ragging; v. Violation of decency and morals through ragging; vi. Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt; vii. Wrongful restraint; viii. Wrongful confinement; ix. Use of criminal force; x. Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences; xi. Extortion; xii. Criminal trespass; xiii. Offences against property; xiv. Criminal intimidation; xv. Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim(s); xvi. Threat to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim(s); xvii. Physical or psychological humiliation; xviii. All other offences following from the definition of Ragging. 3. Administrative action in the event of ragging.3.1 The institution shall punish a student found guilty of ragging after following the procedure and in the manner prescribed hereinunder: a) The Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution shall take an appropriate decision, in regard to punishment or otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of ragging and nature

and gravity of the incident of ragging established in the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad. The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely; i. Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges, ii. Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits, iii. Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process. iv. Withholding results, v. Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival etc. vi. Suspension / expulsion from the hostel, vii. Cancellation of admission, viii. Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters. ix. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA POST SSC FREESHIP/ SCHOLARSHIP FOR RESERVE CATEGORY STUDENTS (DEGREE AND JUNIOR COLLEGE) IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Reserve category students who have taken admission in the College are informed that it is mandatory to submit duly filled in Freeship/ Scholarship Application Forms on or before 20th July along with the necessary documents to avail the benefit of Freeship/ Scholarship. 2. SCHEME OF MERIT-CUM-MEANS BASED GOVERNMENT OF INDIA POST-MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS BELONGING TO THE MINORITY COMMUNITIES. (DEGREE AND JUNIOR COLLEGE)
The objective of the scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of Minority Communities so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education. Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been notified as Minority Communities under Section 2I of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. CONDITIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS: 1. Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less then 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the gross annual income of whose parents/ guardians, from all sources does not exceed Rs 2 lakhs. 2. There are a fixed number of scholarships for minorities and the number is small and limited. Students from Below Poverty Line families, having the lowest income shall be given preference in the ascending order. The renewal applications would be fully exhausted before the new applications are considered. 3. Scholarship will be provided for the entire course. Scholarship will not be awarded for more than the normal period of time taken to obtain Certificate/Degree/M.Phil. Degree/Doctorate Degree. However, maintenance allowance will be given for a period not exceeding ten months only in an academic year. 4. Scholarships will not be given to more than two students in a family.

The award will be discontinued if a student fails to secure 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and is found to be irregular in attendance. 6. The scholarship once awarded, may be renewed during the next academic year of the course on the production of certificate that the student has secured 50% marks in the examination. 7. If a student violates any other terms and conditions of the scholarship, the scholarship will be suspended or cancelled. The State Government/Union Territory Administration can also directly cancel the award if duly satisfied of the reasons of violation of these regulations governing the scheme. 8. If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement/certificates, his/her scholarship will be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid shall be recovered. 9. The student obtaining benefits under this scholarship scheme shall not be allowed to avail of benefits under any other scholarship scheme for the same purpose. 10. The rules and regulations can be changed at any time by the Government of India.

As per the University of Mumbai Circular No. UG/284 of 2007 dated 16.06.2007, following is the Ordinance 5719 relating to the eligibility for admission to the First Year of the Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) Degree course: 0.5719: A candidate for being eligible for admission to the First year of the three year integrated course leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) [B.Sc. (Computer Science)] must have passed Higher Secondary School Certificate examination (XIIth Standard) in Science Stream conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education with Mathematics and Statistics as one of subject or its equivalent. Admission will be on merit, based on order of preference as follows: 1. Aggregate Marks at H.S.C. or equivalent. 2. Aggregate Marks in Science Group (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) 3. As per University of Mumbai Circular No. UG/344 of 2002 dated 17.08.2002, following are the Rules for the conduct of Second Year B. A., B. Sc. and B. Com. Examinations 1. 1. First and Second Term Examinations: S. Y. B.A., B. Sc., & B. Com. Examinations There will be two Examinations, one at the end of each Term called the First Term Examination and the Second Term Examination respectively. Both Term Examinations will be of equal marks and of equal duration. The First Term Examination will be based on the portion of the syllabus taught in First Term and the Second Term Examination will be based on the portion of the syllabus taught in Second Term as prescribed by the Boards of Studies of the respective subjects and approved by the Academic Council. The Practical Examination in a subject shall be held only once and before the end of Second Term. 2. Schemes for Paper without Practical and Paper with Practical : A. Paper without practical (50 + 50) = 100 Marks (First Term Examination) 50 Marks (2 Hours duration) (Second Term Examination) 50 Marks (2 Hours duration) B. 3. Additional Examination : A. Eligibility to appear for the Additional Examination : A student who does not appear in some or all the Papers, either at the First Term Examination or at the Second Term Examination on medical grounds or for representing the College/University in sports, cultural activities, activities of NCC/NSS conducted by recognized bodies/competent authorities or for any other reason which is considered valid under exceptional circumstances and to the satisfaction of the Principal is eligible to appear for the Additional Examination. A student who does not appear for both Term Examinations will not be eligible to appear for the Additional Examination B. Nature of the Additional Examination : The Additional Examination will be of two hours duration and of 50 marks per Paper/Subject. The student shall appear for the Paper/Subject of the Term Examination which he/she has missed. In Subjects having Paper with practicals and in Subjects where Project/Tutorials are prescribed as part of workload in the syllabus, the marks obtained in such a Paper/Subject shall be converted appropriately as explained in para 2 above. 4. Standard of Passing : The passing in the Subject will be based on the aggregate of marks of the First and Second Term Examinations taken together or marks of First Term Examination and the Additional Examination taken together or marks of Second Term Examination and the Additional Examination taken together. The appearance at both the Term Examinations, Project/Tutorial evaluation and the Practical Examination is compulsory. In order to pass in a subject a student must secure: a) A minimum of 35% marks in Subject having only one Paper. b) In a Subject having more than one Paper, a minimum of 20% marks in each Paper and a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate. c) In case of Subject with Practicals, a minimum of 35% marks in Practicals separately.

(Marks secured at each Term Examination will be converted out of 30 marks) Practical Examination 40 Marks per Paper. In Subjects where Project/Tutorials are prescribed as part of workload in the syllabus, the Papers in such Subjects for each Term Examination will be of 50 marks and 2 hours duration. Marks secured in each Paper will be appropriately converted into Theory component (Marks out of 40 or 45 as applicable) and remaining marks will be treated for Project/Tutorials as applicable.

Important: In subjects where Projects/Tutorials are prescribed as part of workload in the syllabus, attendance and submission of Projects/ Tutorial Assignments/Appearance at Tutorial Tests is compulsory. Students who fail to do so will be declared FAIL in the concerned subject even if they score minimum marks for passing in the Theory paper/s. 5. Gracing: Gracing shall be carried out as per the existing Ordinances of the University of Mumbai. Verification : There will be facility of Verification of marks at the F.Y., S.Y., B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. Examinations conducted by the College. Verification includes correction of mistakes in transfer of entries, totaling and correction for unassessed part of answer, if any. In the event of any discrepancy noted rectification will be effected. Verification does not include reassessment. Exemption : An unsuccessful student who obtains the minimum percentage of marks prescribed for passing in a Subject/Practical may, at his/her option be exempted from appearing in that Subject/Practical at his/ her subsequent appearance and will be declared to have passed the whole Examination on his/her passing in the remaining Subjects/Practicals in which he/she has failed. Ex-Students : Students who have been declared failed at the Examination or who have been Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) for the higher class shall appear as Ex-student for the Annual Examination held by the College. Annual Examination : A. Eligibility to appear at the Annual Examination : A student, who has failed or is Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) for higher class is eligible to appear at the Annual Examination. B. Nature of Annual Examination : The Annual Examination will be of three hours duration and of 100 marks per Paper/Subject where there are no Practicals and of two hours duration and of 60 marks per Paper/Subject where there are Practicals. The paper shall be drawn over

the entire syllabus and will be divided into two sections viz. Section I based on portion of syllabus taught in the First Term and Section II based on portion of syllabus taught in the Second Term. There will be two Annual Examinations in an academic year, one before the end of the First Term and other before the end of the Second Term.

ORDINANCE REGARDING AWARD OF 10 GRACE MARKS TO STUDENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN ANY ONE OF THE VARIOUS EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
0.229: Candidates appearing for any of the University Examination/ Examinations conducted by the Colleges on behalf of the University shall be eligible for the award of maximum 10 grace marks at their option, wherever necessary in addition to the marks secured in each Head of passing for participation in any one of the activities mentioned below: 1. Students who have enrolled as members of the N.C.C. and have satisfactorily completed the N.C.C. training programme during the academic year, as certified by the Principal/Commanding Officer of their respective College, OR (ii) Students who have participated in the N.S.S. programme and have satisfactorily completed at least 120 hours of Social Service comprising the time spent in at least two types of projects as certified by the Principal of their respective College and forwarded by the N.S.S. Programme Coordinator, OR (iii) Students who are one of the members of the team/s reaching the Quarter final stage at intercollegiate sports competitions or have secured one of the eight places in order of merit in individual sport event conducted by the University or have represented the University in sport events either at the Inter State or at Zonal level or at National level or at International level and have produced the necessary certificate from the Principal of their respective College and forwarded by Head of the concerned Section, OR (iv) Students who are members of team/s securing first three positions in cultural group events or have secured one of the first three places

in individual cultural events or whose performance have been adjudged best as an Actor/Actress, Music Director, Lighting/ Sound effect operator, Author, Choreographer, or as Director in Group events conducted at the Intercollegiate cultural competition organized by the University, or have represented the University in any of the cultural events either at the State level or at the Zonal level or at the National level or at the International level in the same academic year as certified by the Principal of their respective college and forwarded by Head of the concerned Section, OR (v) Students who are members of the Students councils constituted under Section 40 (2) (a) or Section 40 (2) (b) or under Section 40 (4) of the Maharashtra Universities Act 1994, and have actively participated in various schemes, programs and attended functions of the University during that academic year, as recommended by the Principal of the concerned College and certified by the Director of Students Welfare. The benefit of 10 grace marks to candidates would be available only in any one of the activities mentioned above, at their option subject to their fulfilling following conditions: That they are appearing for any University Examination except the Examinations having point system of evaluation for the first time. That in case of failure in one or more Heads of passing an Examination, the benefit of grace marks shall be granted to the extent of 5% of the maximum marks allotted to the Head of passing the concerned subject. That the grace marks will be granted for the purpose of claiming exemptions in a subject/s, provided it shall not exceed 5% of the maximum marks allotted to a subject. That the maximum of 10 grace marks shall be granted for the purpose of enabling a candidate for the award of class and or distinction in the Examination. That maximum 10 grace marks will be added to the grand total, if the benefit of grace marks is not claimed in any of the above (2) to (4) conditions. That if the examination is conducted in semester and the marks of the two semesters are clubbed, the question of grant of 10 grace marks in odd semester under this Ordinance shall be considered

at their option to students if they prove merit only in that particular odd semester in activities mentioned above and comply with all such conditions stipulated therefore, else the same shall be granted in even semester examination of that academic year. 8. That the grace marks under this Ordinance will not be counted for the award of scholarships, prizes and medals or any other awards. 9. That the rules relating to gracing under this Ordinance shall be applied first and the same shall separately be shown in the marks sheet of the candidates. 10. That the University authorities may consider withholding of any of the aforesaid benefit or to consider any of the merit/work of the candidates null and void if, in the option of duly constituted Disciplinary Committee, such an action is felt necessary, and communicated to University through the Principal/Head of the Department.

REVALUATION OF ANSWER BOOKS


As per the directions of the Honourable Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai, vide letter No. Exam./Photo & Rev. / College / VCD / 4636 of 2010 following are the extracts of Rules and Procedure for providing of Photo copies of assessed answer book/s to the examinee & Process of Revaluation of the Answer - book/s of the examinee who apply for the revaluation. 1. 2. 3. The directions shall come into force from the examinations to be held from the First Half of the Year 2010. Applying for Photocopy of answer book and applying for Revaluation will be two independent processes. Applying for the Photocopy of the answer book or having Photocopy of the answer book shall not be a pre-requisite for applying for revaluation of the answer book in the said subject. The student can independently apply for revaluation OR Photocopy OR both simultaneously. PART - I Extracts of the Rules and Procedure for providing the Photocopy /ies of assessed answer-book/s. 5. The facility of obtaining Photocopy/ies of assessed and/or moderated answer book/s by the examinee is extended with a view to bring transparency in the examinations system and ensure its credibility. This facility, thus provided, shall be for theory papers only of all the examinations conducted by the college / institution on behalf of the University in the current session. Under these rules applying for the Photocopy/ies of answerbooks shall not be permitted in respect of the scripts of practical examination / term-work / sessional work / project work / dissertation / internal assessment / term work (including theory part) and in Viva voce / oral / practical examinations. However within seven (7) working days from the date of declaration of the results or on issue of the statement of marks by the college the candidate shall be allowed to apply 8.

in the prescribed format for the head wise internal split of his marks obtained at such examinations along with payment of non-refundable fee of Rs. 100/- by cash or D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal of the respective college from where the candidate has registered for the said course; and the provisions of Rule 10 to Rule 24 shall be applicable mutatis mutandis to the extent they shall be applicable for supply of the head wise internal split of the marks, except that of applying for revaluation. The Photocopy/ies shall be sought by submission of application in the prescribed form along with the nonrefundable fee of Rs. 100/- per answer book by the examinee. The said fee shall be remitted by cash or by D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal of respective college to which the candidate has registered for the said course. The examinee's belonging to reserved categories shall be granted 50% concession in fee. The prescribed application form for obtaining Photocopy/ ies of answer book shall have to be filled and signed by the applicant examinee only and shall be submitted to the respective college / institution to which the candidate has registered for the said course within seven (7) working days from the date of the declaration of result of the examination or issue of statement of marks by the college / institution, whichever is later. Incomplete application form shall be rejected without assigning any reason whatsoever and the fees paid along with the application form shall neither be refunded not will any representation be entertained. a) It will also be the responsibility of the student to collect the statement of Marks from the college and apply for Photocopy/ies or / and revaluation within stipulated time. No application after the due date will be entertained on any ground whatsoever.

The Photocopy/ies shall be handed over to the applicant examinee in person only and under no circumstances to any other person. While obtaining the Photocopy/ies from such respective college the applicant examinee shall have to produce the original receipt of submission of application form and to establish his/her identity, to the Principal or the Officer of the college authorized by him. On receipt of Photocopy/ies the applicant examinee shall be the sole custodian of it and under any circumstances the examinee shall not part with the custody/possession of the same and also shall not use the same for any other purpose/s. The Photocopy/ies so obtained by the examinee shall be of his/her exclusive and relevant use. Neither the said examinee nor any other person can use the said copy to dispute or challenge the quality of assessment or quantum of marks assigned to the answers therein. If the examinee is found guilty of indulging in any unfair act/attempt he/she shall be liable to be tried before the Unfair Means Inquiry Committee of the college and the decision taken by the authorities based on the recommendation of the said committee shall be final. If his/her indulgence commission in unfair act/attempt is proved, the examinee shall be liable for the punishment ranging from : (i) cancellation of his/her marks in the said subject, either originally granted or granted on revaluation as the case may be, (ii) annulment of examination's for a stipulated period of maximum up to 5 examinations, (iii) cancellation of his/her result of the examination etc. On receipt of the photocopy if the discrepancy of following nature is noticed by the examinee, he should apply to the Principal in the prescribed form along with the said photocopy and copy of the question paper within three (3) working days from the date of publication of the notice by the Principal of the respective college as per the provisions hereinabove. 18.

After due verification, the Principal of respective college shall make necessary rectification in the marks allotted to the said subject and consequently in the result of the candidate without charging any further fee for the necessary rectification. On rectification of the result as per the provisions above, the candidate can apply for revaluation within seven (7) working days from the date of receipt of the rectified result, if he/she was not eligible to apply for revaluation of the said answer book under Rule 29 herein below mentioned and only by such rectification becomes eligible for revaluation in the said subject, subject to other limitations contained herein. The examinee is free to apply for Photocopy/ies of answer books of as many subject as he/she so desire. PART - II Extracts of the Rules and Procedure for the Revaluation of the answer-book/s 20. If the examinee is not satisfied with the marks awarded, he/ she may independently apply for revaluation to the college in the prescribed form with the period and in the manner prescribed hereinafter, whether or not he/she has applied for Photo/Photocopy/ies of the same to the college. This revaluation facility shall be for theory papers only of all the examinations conducted by the college on behalf of the University for the respective current session. The revaluation of answer books shall not be permitted in respect of the marks awarded to the scripts of practical examination / term work / sessional work / project work / dissertation / internal assessment / term work (including theory part) and in viva voce / oral / practical examinations in the college. A candidate can apply for the revaluation of the answer book of the subject only if he/she has secured at least 20% of the

total marks in that subject or 40% of the marks required for passing in the said subject, whichever is less or the grade equivalent to the above criteria where grades are assigned to the theory papers. 24. The prescribed application form for revaluation of answer book can be obtained from the office of the respective college to which the candidate has registered for the said course in the current session. The non refundable prescribed fees of Rs. 500/- per subject per answer book for the purpose of revaluation shall be paid by the examinee. The said fee shall be remitted by cash or by D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal of respective college to which the candidate has registered for the said course in the current session. The examinees from the reserved categories shall be given fifty per cent (50%) concession, provided a certified copy of the caste certificate is enclosed. The prescribed application form for revaluation of answer book duly filled in and signed by the applicant examinee only is to be submitted to the concerned college office along with the statement of marks, prescribed fees as above and question paper's for which he/she intends to apply for revaluation, within seven (6) working days from the date of the declaration of result of the respective examination or from the date on which the college issued the statement of marks, whichever is later. Effect shall be given to the change in original marks on revaluation, as under i) The marks obtained after revaluation shall be accepted by the Principal of the respective college, if the marks assigned to a paper as a result of revaluation increase or decrease in revaluation by ten percent (10%) or more than the mark originally obtained by the candidate in the paper without any grace, and in such case, the marks originally obtained by the candidate in the paper shall be treated as null and void and the marks obtained by 31.

The answer books already revalued shall not be moderated or further revaluated, unless so directed by the Vice-Chancellor, in exceptional cases. The whole process of revaluation shall be completed as far as possible within a period of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of the application for revaluation by the college/ institution. The student may be admitted to the next higher class to which he could have been admitted if he/she had passed in the said examination or had been granted A.T.K.T. for admission to the next class in the original examination as per the rules applicable for the stream and faculty if he/she had originally obtained required passing marks in the papers in which he/she had applied for revaluation. The college shall be entitled to charge fee of Rs. 500/at the time of granting admission to such students to the next class before declaration of the result of the revaluation. Such admission shall be provisional; and automatically stands cancelled on receipt of the result of revaluation process, if the student is not declared passed in the requisite number of the subjects on revaluation which would entitle him/her to take admission in the next higher class, and in such case the fees originally collected by the college or any part of the same shall not be refunded.

Pending the declaration of the result of the revaluation, the students who have taken admission to next higher class, as mentioned above, shall be allowed to appear at the examination to the next class and their results of the next examinations shall be declared only on their passing in the requisite number of the subjects on revaluation which would entitle them to take admission in the next class; and in case the students does not succeed in passing in such requisite number of subjects, their admission to the examinations of the next class, their performance and results of the same shall be treated as null and void.

This VCD shall come into force with immediate effect i.e. from the examination of First Half 2010 and shall remain in force till new rules and regulations in pursuant to the subject matters dealt with in this VCD are made by the appropriate authorities.

In case if the student is declared to have passed in the requisite number of the subjects on revaluation which would entitle him/her to take admission in the next higher class as per the Ordinances/regulations, the provisional admission will be regularized i) In case of the reserved category students or other students who are entitled to get fee concession, on appropriating the amount equal to the amount of fees which the college can collect from the student and the balance amount shall be refunded to the student at the time of confirmation and continuation of his/her admission. In case of other students, the said amount shall be deducted from the total fees which the college or the institution is entitled to collect from the student as per the rules applicable.

The applications will be accepted and processed stream wise separately and the merit list will be displayed stream wise taking into account the reservation policy prescribed by the Government of Maharashtra. In case no applications are received under the Diploma in Engineering and Other Category or if the seats remain vacant in Diploma Engineering and Other Category after all the merit lists are exhausted, the vacant seats shall be transferred to Commerce Stream. JUNIOR COLLEGE

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS


Students are informed that Revised Curriculum has been implemented for all the subjects with effect from the academic year 2006 2007. The details of the syllabus, scheme of examination, important information/ instructions etc will be informed by the Teachers in the classroom or will be displayed on the Notice Board. Students should regularly attend lectures and refer Notice Boards. The College will not be responsible if a student is unaware of any important information/instruction given in the classroom or displayed on the Notice Board. The salient features of the Examination Scheme for Languages and Environment Education is given below: Examination Scheme for Environment Education: (For F.Y./S.Y.J.C. Arts, Science & Commerce) This subject is compulsory for all the students and is prescribed for 100 marks consisting of written examination of 60 marks and Project Work of 40 marks. The College will conduct written examinations and assess the Project work. Students will have to appear for the following four written examinations conducted by the College: 1. First Unit Test of 30 marks of one hour duration in the month of August 2. Terminal Examination of 60 marks of 2 hours 30 minutes at the end of the First Term. 3. Second Unit Test of 30 marks of one hour duration in the month of December 4. Annual examination of 60 marks of 2 hours 30 minutes in the month of January Thus, the students will be examined for maximum marks of 180. The average maximum marks will be calculated by dividing the maximum marks of the four examinations (180) by 3. Thus, Average maximum marks = 180/3 = 60 marks. The marks secured by students in all the four examinations will be divided by 3 to arrive at average marks secured out of 60.

Students will be required to submit the Project Work as per the schedule informed in the classroom or displayed on the Notice Board. If a student fails to appear for the above four examinations or fails to submit the Project Work, he/she will be declared FAIL in the subject and consequently in the H.S.C. Board Examination. To pass in this subject, it is mandatory for a student to secure a minimum of 21 marks out of 60 marks in the written examination and a minimum of 14 marks out of 40 marks in the Project Work i.e. a minimum of 21 + 14 = 35 marks. If a student fails to get a minimum of 35 marks, he/she will be declared FAIL in the subject and consequently in the H.S.C. Board Examination. As per H.S.C. Board Rules grace marks cannot be given in this subject. Students should note that, even if they score more than 35% marks in the written examination but fail in Project Work or vice versa, they will be declared Fail in the subject and consequently in the H.S.C. Board Examination. The total of the average marks secured by students in the four written examinations (out of 60) and the Project Work (out of 40) will be converted into Grade as shown below and will be submitted to the H.S.C. Board which will be reflected on their Mark sheets. Grade A : 60% and above, Grade C : 35% to 44%, Grade B Grade D : 45% to 59%, : 34% and below.

In the Oral examination, students will be examined in their skills in Listening (6 marks), Reading (4 marks), Speaking (5 marks) and Conversation (5 marks). It will be held before the commencement of the Annual H.S.C. Board Examination as per the schedule received from the Board. It will be mandatory for every student to appear for the Oral examination as per the schedule displayed on the Notice Board. If a student fails to do so, he will be reported Absent and no marks will be assigned to him. The College will not be responsible, if a student fails to appear for the Oral Examination. Certificate Subject : Health & Physical Education : The subject will not be for Higher Secondary Certificate Examination. But the candidnte will not be held eligible to appear for the Higher Secondary Examination unless he/she produces a certificate of having satisfactorily completed the course in this subject.

EXAMINATION SCHEME FOR F. Y. J. C. ARTS, SCIENCE AND COMMERCE


The Schedule of College Examinations that will be conducted during the academic year is as follows : Examination Maximum marks Tentative dates Second/Third week of August (a) First Mid Term 50 marks (each subject) Examination Theory : 30 Marks Tutorials /Assignments : 20 Marks (b) Terminal Examination

It will be the responsibility of the student to appear for all the four written examinations and submit the Project Work as per the schedule informed in the classroom or on the Notice Board. Under no circumstances the College will be responsible if a student fails to appear for the above four examinations or fails to submit the Project Work. Examination Scheme for Languages: (For S.Y.J.C. Arts, Science & Commerce) Every language (English/Marathi/Hindi/German/French/Japanese) is prescribed for 100 marks consisting of written examination of 80 marks of 3 hours duration and an Oral examination of 20 marks. Written examination will be conducted by the H.S.C. Board and the Oral examination will be conducted by the College and the marks will be submitted to the H.S.C. Board.

Attendance at the Examinations is compulsory. If a student fails to appear for these Examinations he/she will not be granted Terms. After the completion of each Examination, results will be declared within two/three weeks. Assessed answer books of each subject will be shown to the student in the classroom by the subject teacher, the schedule of which will be displayed on the College Notice Board. The Result will also be displayed on the Notice Board. Parents are requested to verify the performance of their ward at each Examination by referring the College Notice Board or by contacting the Vice - Principal of Junior College.

4. Parents to note that the student will be examined for 300 marks (Maximum) in each subject. The final result will be decided on the basis of the average marks obtained at these examinations which is calculated using the formula, [Marks obtained in (a) + (b) + (c) + (d) Examinations] 3 5.
