WEEK 2 Task: Analyzing a Course using the Elements of Thought Questions Purpose What is the purpose of your course? (in one sentence) Assumptions What assumptions are you making about your students at the start of the course? Your Responses (please complete the statements with information that relates to your particular course) The purpose of my course is to develop the oral and listening skills in my students. At the start of the course, I assume that my students have the basic knowledge of English such as greetings, the use of the verb to be, the simple present, present continuous and so on. So, I assume they are able to keep short conversations about their daily life and about their plans for going abroad; also, they are able to ask and answer personal questions without any problem. Some of the points of view that will be discussed in this course include the opinions of living in a foreign country, suggestions people give to those who are thinking of going abroad to study or live, how life is different when you move to another country with a different language of your own, among others.

Some essential concepts students learn about in this course are: - Immigration - Interviews - Tourism Students will need to access information about travelling. They will search online information about flights, the rules for taking luggage and equipment into a plane, the costs of tickets, the basic vocabulary used in the airport and in the plane, the basic vocabulary used in the counter and in a hotel, among others. They also will watch some videos and listen to some recordings about the topic. Having learned the common expressions we use in an airport, students will likely conclude that practicing that vocabulary will help them to get fluency at the moment they need to use it in a real context.

Implications What are some implications of the above inferences/conclusions that students learn to make in this course?

Based on the above-mentioned conclusions that students are likely to to make, some implications are: First, students are encouraged to use real vocabulary and expressions that they will use later when they have the opportunity to travel abroad; second, students will share their experiences of pasts trips with their classmates; and third, students will use their creativity to create new dialogues and conversations related to the topic.
