The Defense of Religious Liberty In the Public Square Featuring John Breen, J.D., Professor of Law at Loyola University, Chicago Wednesday, September 11, 7 PM St. John the Apostle Church 330 N Westmore, Villa Park, IL 60181
On August 1, 2013, the mandate from the Department of Health & Human Services, which is a direct attack on religious liberty, has gone into effect. The mandate forces employers to pay for coverage of abortioninducing drugs, sterilization, contraception and related counseling in violation of their religious beliefs and moral convictions. Non- compliance will subject Americans to penalties amounting to millions of dollars. Profess Breens talk will clarify the challenges we face in defending our religious freedom. Professor John Breen graduated from Notre Dame in 1985 with the highest honors and attended Harvard Law School. Following his graduation from Harvard in 1988, Professor Breen clerked for Hon. Boyce F. Martin, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He joined the Loyola faculty in 1996, where he has taught courses including Professional Responsibility, Jurisprudence, and Catholic Social Thought.
Lets Start Together on Tuesday, Sept 3 In PLC at 9:00 am 33 Days to Morning Glory Do It Yourself Retreat In preparation for Marian Consecration By Fr. Michael Gaitley
Fr. Michael's book prescribes 33 days of "spiritual reading and prayerful pondering." The book is broken down so that readers spend seven days each on the Marian consecration teachings of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Blessed John Paul II. Then the final five days are for review before reciting the Prayer of Consecration (preferably after receiving Holy Communion). "Because the act of consecrating oneself to Jesus through Mary marks the beginning of a gloriously new day," says Fr. Michael, "a new dawn, a brand new morning in one's spiritual journey. We are taking orders for the book, and we will begin the individual retreat on Sept 4, 2013. Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary would then be on October 7, Feast of the Most Holy Rosary. For more information please call Eileen Maggiore at 630-396-6076.

This conversation took place after the Mary Crowning on the Feast of the Assumption which also served as the closing event for the Vacation Bible School-Rosary Renewal: The Life of Jesus through the Eyes of Mary. My grandson and I walked down to the car on the lower lot around noon. Colbey: Grandma, whats that noise? Me: What noise? Colbey: That ringing sound Me: (after a while of intent listening I realized he was talking about the bells from the bell tower.) Oh, those are the bells. Colbey: Where are they coming from? Me: From the bell tower, you know that thing you were trying to climb all over while we were praying the Rosary Colbey: Oh.Ill bet shes making them ring. She was looking down and loved the flowers we gave her! Me: Yes Sometimes the words of a Child speak louder than any theologian or minister. Thank you to Eileen Maggiore for the opportunity to witness such amazing insights!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
The Gospel reading today starts with a question: Lord, will only a few people be saved? Jesus offers only a simple reply: Strive to enter through the narrow gate. Many will try to enter and will not be able. Good stewards know there is only one, narrow gate. Not everything will fit. This narrow gate has no room for our accomplishments. No room for our money. No room for our possessions. No room for anything else but those whove been good stewards of the Gospel. We cant custom build our own gates either. There is only one, narrow gate that happens to be open for a time, but for how long? What is our plan of action to get through that gate?
