II. Translate .the. following into chemical formulae and balance the equations. Include the phases (s = solid, 1 = liquid, g = gas) when this information is given or known. For example: "Liquid bromine reacts with gaseous chlorine to form solid bromine monochloride" is translated as: Br2(l) + Cl2(g) -* 2 BrCl(s)
1. Phosphoric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide to give sodium phosphate and water. 2. Sodium hydrogen carbonate reacts with sulphuric acid to produce sodium sulphate, water and carbon dioxide. 3. Aluminum oxide and sulphuric acid produce water and aluminum sulphate. 4. Sodium metal reacts with water to produce solid sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. 5. Heptane (C7H16) burns in an atmosphere of oxygen. 6. Barium chloride dihydrate and silver oxide react to produce silver chloride, barium hydroxide and water. 7. Solid sodium hydroxide reacts with chlorine gas to give solid sodium chloride, solid sodium chlorate and water. 8. Nitrogen trifluoride and hydrogen react to form nitrogen and hydrofluoric acid. 9. Ferric chloride hexahydrate and sodium carbonate react to form sodium chloride, ferric carbonate monohydrate and water. 10. Calcium carbonate and hydrogen chloride react to form carbon dioxide, calcium chloride and water. 11. Solid sodium nitrate and solid sodium metal react to form solid sodium oxide and nitrogen gas. 12. Gaseous boron trichloride reacts with steam to yield solid boron trihydroxide and hydrogen chloride gas. 13. Cobaltous chloride hexahydrate reacts violently with thionyl chloride (SOCI2) to form cobaltous chloride, sulphur dioxide and hydrogen chloride. 14. Calcium hydride and water form hydrogen and calcium hydroxide. 15. Xenon hexafluoride reacts violently with water to form xenon trioxide and hydrogen fluoride.
