COURSE DESCRIPTION

A study of current topics (software piracy, hacking, professional conduct) in computer science and the impact of computers on various subsets (home, government, and education) of society. II. REQUIRED

* After your presentation, you must schedule an appointment with me to

critique your presentation. This is part of your grade. Please see me in class or email at dswan3@uncc.edu. REMEMBER: You are to spend only 15 - 20 minutes to present the technical state-of-the-art in your particular area. The majority of time must be spent

on the social issues surrounding your topic as seen by the computer professional and the ordinary citizen. NOTES: Academic dishonesty, in any form, will not be tolerated. Cheating, copying parts or whole papers, or complicity in any violations of the student academic integrity code will result in prompt action on my part. The procedures are outlined in the UNCC Code of Student Academic Integrity. See more detailed statement at end of this syllabus. Attendance is mandatory for all class meetings. After the fourth unexcused absence, the student will lose 2 points for each absence and after a students seventh absence; the student will lose 3 points from their final average for each absence. Any student who has more than ten absences will receive an F in the class. A list of sources must be submitted after your presentation. On this sheet should appear your name, topic, and the date of your presentation. You must also schedule an appointment for a critique of your presentation.

III.

Moodle

Moodle will be used in the class to disperse course related information and documents including: handouts, assignments, and announcements. It is the responsibility of the student to check Moodle regularly for new updates.

IV.

Presenters Missing Presentations

Missing a presentation causes inconvenience and loss of course time to fellow students. Making up a missed presentation is unlikely, but will only be made up as course time allows, with written excuse citing a serious reason, and ONLY with the approval of the professor.

V.

Late assignments

Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the date that it is assigned. Any late assignments will receive a full grade level reduction per day of lateness.

VI.

Cellphones, and Electronic Devices

Please turn off your cell phones, and configure all other electronic devices so that they vibrate instead of ring or beep. If this is not possible, the device needs to be turned off or left outside of the classroom.

VII.

Plagiarism, Copying, Cheating & Academic Integrity

Plagiarism, Copying or Cheating is an academic fraud, and punishable under the UNC Charlotte code of conduct. Students must never engage in such

activities during examination, quizzes and/or assignments. Any student found to have plagiarized, copied, or cheated during the course of semester will be awarded an F grade. All students are required to read and abide by the Code of Student Academic Integrity. Violations of the Code of Student Academic Integrity, including plagiarism, will result in disciplinary action as provided in the Code.
