Mode of Development: Exposition

Exposition is a type of writing where the purpose is to inform, describe, explain, or define the author's subject to the reader. Exposition is meant to deposit information and is the most frequently used type of writing by students in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities. A well-written exposition remains focused on its topic and lists events in chronological order. Examples of expository writing include driving directions and instructions on performing a task. Key words such as first, after, next, then, last, before that, and usually signal sequential writing. Expository essays should not reveal the opinion of the author or writer.

Sample Paragraph From a Journal

The author clarifies that Contrary to what one might expect from the title, the authors concern is neither sex nor sexuality, but gender and roles. The theme of the book speaks to the point the societies must make the fullest use of ther human resources and talent. Findings are presented from a vast array of research on the significance of sex differences as these differences affect all of lifes span and most of lifes activities. It is the authors contention that the very obviousness of sex diffences has caused us to overlook tha ways in which these differences operate, and that by overlooking or failing to understand these differences, parents, teachers and others have made grievous mistakes. The author attempt to provide a balanced presentation of the ways males and females are treated differently and unequally in all realms of life school, family, work as well as in what ways this differential treatment can be both helpful and harmful to the development of both sexes. In their attempt to provide a balanced presentation of the human

misery inflicted be inappropriate sex role expectations, the authors themselves treat the sexes unfairly. The negative impact of sex role expectations on males in more adequately covered that in most other books in this subject., but it is done so at the the expense of females. This is especially tru in the chapter Beyond High School. There is little discussion of the myriad ways women are dicriminated against in higher education and what the psychosociological effects are of such discrimination. Source: Howard, S. (1974). Love, love, love. Yes, stupid love. Who do you preferthe one who loves you obsessively or the other whom you love truly? A question that seems so easy to answer, however, when you are exactly in the same situation, makes you feel so dumb. The martyr loverthe one wholl love you endlessly without being reciprocated. There is assurance of love and security from this person. He or she will absolutely do almost anything and everything for you. What else can you wish from this kind of lover? No lies, no cheats, just pure love. The only thing you should work on is giving love in return. The only yet the most difficult thing to do. Hows guilt then, if no love is repaid? On the other hand; The one true love of yoursthe every beat of your heart. The becauses of your whys. The person whom youll be willing to spend every effort just to get an attention. Seriously, how does it feel when you are ignored? Anyway, his smile means a lot to you and even just a word heard from him or her already makes your day so special. But is that all what youll get? Is that all what you want to receive? Satisfaction & contentmentall foolishness! No love is guaranteed. Hows your life then? Some say choose the obsessive lover, Youll learn to love him or her anyway. Really? How can you absolute love a person if there is this someone in your heart? Inversely, why would you waste your time on somebody who rejects you and makes you feel stupid all the time? Which is

which? Confusing, right? Whoever youll choose, dear, please dont blame love. It is you who makes the decision. Loves just playing on you.
