The Parthenon

As the new semester settles in one may feel overwhelmed or stressed by their classes and school work. When dealing with this it is important to fit time for yourself into your schedule, and a great way to do that is by seeing what the Performing Arts Department has to offer. One category of this field is the theatre department, which produces great plays throughout the school year. The first performance will be Anna in the Tropics held on October 2-5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse located on Fifth Ave. The second show will be aMUsed Dance Concert performed by the MU student dance company on October 18-19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Joan. C. Edwards Playhouse. In addition to these shows, the theatre department will put on two more performances this semester in the Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre, as well as two more shows next semester. Season tickets are available now and cost only $62 for all six shows. If you are interested in music shows, however, Marshall provides many different musical performances throughout the year. The first performance will be Big Band Dance Jomie Jazz Ctr. On September 8 at 8 p.m. Following this performance is the jazz visiting artist J Forum and the Dobbs and Vauth faculty recital, which will be held on September 12 at 8 p.m. In addition to these shows, the music department will be putting on at least six more shows this semester. All shows are located in the Smith Music Building and Jomie Jazz Center.

If these theatre and music events are not enough to satisfy you, the performing arts also puts on the Marshall Artists Series, which include artists from all over to come and perform at Marshall University. The first artist coming to Huntington is comedy star and actor Bill Burr, who will be performing September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Student tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the Student Activities Office. The next performer will be singer Natalie Cole on Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Following her will be singer-songwriter Jason Mraz performing on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Along with these three performers, the performing arts will bring Kevin Pollak, Blue Man Group, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and many more throughout this semester and next. The last Marshall Artist to make their way to Huntington will be a Broadway musical based on Green Days album American Idiot performing on April 24. All shows will take place at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center with the exception of the performance of Roslyn Kind, which will be held at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.
