De-Stress Your Marriage this Fall

Tips for Success

Did you know that there is a new disorder called Summer Stress Syndrome? Yep, the words summer and stress have become synonymous for many families trying to cope with the unstructured summer months! Even more ironically, one of the most stressful times for the modern family can be the end of summer when its time to prepare to the kids for a new school year. New schedules, new clothes, and many times, new sources of stress for parents. A few of the top sources of stress include money, time management, and sharing of responsibilities. Here are a few tips to help take the stress out of going back to school.

Budget

Money is the number one issue that all couples fight about, so it would only make sense that this time of year might be extra stressful. Thats why its important to make sure that all new expenses are accounted for and work within a clearly defined budget. Back to school supplies, clothes, as well as the costs of extra curricular activities should all be written down in a central location. This will help keep both spouses on the same page, and allow for better financial planning later in the year.

Schedule

Between work, school, sports, and other activities its easy to see how effective time management is essential in relieving stress within a marriage. Make sure to sit down with your spouse and talk about the family schedule together. This will help each spouse have a greater appreciation for the other, as well as alleviate any scheduling conflicts right off the bat.

Share Responsibilities
In most marriages one spouse takes on more of the responsibilities associated with the children. It is especially important during the fall months to make an effort to share in these responsibilities. All of that running around can become overwhelming very quickly. Sit down together and talk about ways to share the load.
