Golding, William, Lord of the Flies, Farber and Farber, Salisbury, England, 1954 An adventure novel in which a group of boys are on an isolated island and deal with adapting to their new environment after the plane they were on crashed. This shows how the boys choose how to survive and their different tactics in which they do so.

The poem was originally sung by the story teller in the ancient villages and was passed down through the ages. Homer, The Iliad, Ancient Greece, -The epic poem in which weaknesses are revealed along with revenge when dealing with war and the Gods. Salinger, J.D., Catcher in the Rye, Little Brown Company, New York, 1951 A coming of age novel in which Holden, the main character, fights the pain of growing up and the choices he has made. Shakespeare, William, Romeo and Juliet, First Quarto, London, 1597 The long narrative and tragic tale of two lovers caught in between a long family feud. One of many tragedy works from him but one of the most well-known. ---, William, Midsummer Nights Dream, London, 1600 A comical play about two couples night in the woods with all the dastardly magic and mischief intertwine with them. Striking as love triangles intertwined. ---, William, Macbeth, Folio, London, England, 1623 The short tragedy is said the darkest play Shakespeare ever wrote. As it unfolds the readers see in irony of the characters actions.

Unknown, Beowulf, Thorkelin, 1815 The heroic, epic poem tells the story of the success of Beowulf of protecting a village and what repercussions happened afterward. Walker, Alice, The Color Purple, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, California, 1982 The historical novel is a long, confessional narrative with the main character describing her life in a diary and letters from her sister. The story revealed the treatment towards African American women in the deep south. Wetly, Eudora, The Optimists Daughter, Random House, NY, NY, 1972 This is a short story in which the main character comes to a truce with her past and her present. She also learns how to cope with the cards that are dealt with her life. Wiesel, Elie, Night, Hill & Wang, United States, 1960 This book is a memoir of the authors life during Nazi Germany in a concentration camp and what he endured during this time period. It said this is the authors way of coping of the tragedy that happened.
