Author Thomas Crumm, What is good for General Motors? : solving America's industrial conundrum, exposes the strategic decisions that caused the foundation of Americas industrial sector to crumble, then lays out a plan for its restoration. The author led GM Chairman John Smale's Scenario Planning Staff in the mid-1990s and then became Roger Smith's development guru after a career in GM plant operations and designing manufacturing systems. In honor of our veterans, author Teresa Irish makes a special visit to discuss her book, A Thousand Letters Home : One WWII Soldiers Story of War, Love and Life. After her father died, Teresa found packets of letters he wrote during his time in WWII. Her book is comprised of selections from her dads original letters placed into historical context. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Wayne County Community College District, Western Campus. From the DirectorThe library is a busy place! Our dedicated, skilled staff have been
working on providing new services, programming and classes for kids and adults. The adult authors series is back this fall with three outstanding authors scheduled. Our computer class schedule is expanding and we are adding a series of free financial classes. Also new this fall are a jewelry making class for adults and a movie matinee. Story time continues for preschoolers and toddlers. Kids of all ages are invited to come to the library to make an ornament and help us decorate the tree. A family movie matinee will be held as well. When you visit the library, stop and say hello to our new our new Adult Services Librarian, Danielle and our new Youth Services Librarian, Jessica. See you at the library! Patty Braden

Introduction to the Internet Saturday, Oct. 12, 9-11 a.m.


Learn internet basics using Internet Explorer. Topics include understanding the toolbar and menu options, entering Web addresses and bookmarking favorite websites. Basic PC, keyboard and mouse skills required.

Bringing Balance to Your Budget Friday, October 18, 1-2:30 p.m.


This workshop is designed to help you sharpen your spending and saving strategy. You will learn more about setting personal financial goals and balancing spending, saving, and borrowing to achieve your financial goals. An Edward Jones consultant will be presenting this program. Cost: Free

Introduction to Facebook Saturday, Oct. 26, 9-11 a.m.


Learn to create, use, and maintain a Facebook page of your own, including privacy policies and settings. Basic computer skills required.

Saturday Movie Matinee Saturday, November 23, 1-3 p.m.


Join us for a Saturday matinee showing of The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Trying to reboot their obsolete careers, old-school salesmen Billy and Nick talk their way into an internship program at the state-of-the-art Google campus, vying for a handful of spots among tech-savvy college students who are half their age and twice as smart. The competition is fiercely funny as Billy and Nick break all the rules in a hilarious quest to land their dream jobs. Rated PG-13 Running Time: 120 mins.

iPad Basics/Downloading eBooks to your iPad Saturday, Nov. 16, 9-11 a.m.
Basic introduction to using iPad as well as downloading eBooks will be taught. Bring your fully charged iPad with you.

Introduction to Power Point Saturday, Dec. 7, 9-10 a.m.


Learn how to create and organize information within a Power Point presentation. Create an attention-grabbing slideshow with text, pictures, and tables. Basic PC, keyboard and mouse skills required.

Mail Merge Saturday, Dec 14, 9-11 a.m.


Learn how to use mail merge in Microsoft Word to produce letters, envelopes and labels for mass mailings. Knowledge of MS Word, basic PC, keyboard and mouse skills required.

Youth Programs
Preschool Story Time
Preschool Story Time for ages 3 1/2 to 5 years old. Join us for stories, songs and crafts! Register by calling the library at 734-942-7589. Limit 20 per session. Winter Clothing Drive November 11December 7 During the holidays, its important to think about how you can give to others. Providing them with some warmth during the cold Michigan winter is a great place to start. Please donate NEW mittens and hats to those in need. Donations will go to the Romulus Goodfellows who will distribute them to local families. Thank you for helping us help others. Saturday Family Movie Matinee Saturday, October 19 1pm-2:30pm Join us for a showing of the animated movie, The Croods. This movie is rated PG and is approximately 1 hours in length. Cost: Free

Toddler Story Time


Toddler Story Time for ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old. Stories, rhymes, songs and play time. No registration is required for Toddler Story Time. Just stop in.

The library was a busy place this summer with 403 attending our weekly youth programs. The 2013 Summer Reading Program was a huge success with 188 registered readers this year. Good job readers!

Tree Trimming and Window Decoration Monday, December 2 OR Tuesday, December 3 6:30pm-7:30pm Come help us make decorations for our Christmas tree! You make them and hang them on the tree! We also want to make our windows match the snow outside lets make some snowflakes to put on the windows! All ages are welcome and the cost is FREE!

Second Monday Book Club


Join us for book discussions from 7-8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. Book discussions are free and open to all, age 18 and up. No need to register. Library staff can assist you in getting a copy of the book. For more information, call the library at 734942-7589. Knit, Crochet, Etc. Group

Like to knit, crochet, tat, embroider, or sew? Want to learn more? Join us for at 6:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month. Participants will learn skills from each other and can also use library books for patterns and learning. No need to register, just come with your projects. Open to all, age 18 and up.

New Drive-up Book Return


The Library has recently acquired a "gently used" curb-side book return. No more getting out of your car to return library materials. Just drive up and drop them in the slot! Thank you to the City of Romulus DPW for cleaning the box and getting it ready for use and to the Friends of the Library for purchasing it.

Romulus Roman Digitization Project

Monetary donations are still needed to digitize 40 years of the Romulus Roman newspaper going back to 1967. The goal is to provide access to this valuable resource for the benefit of the entire community. Please consider a tax-deductible donation for this important project. Donations of any amount can be sent to the library using the donation form in this newsletter. Thank you!

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Romulus Public Library is to provide a wide variety of materials and services to patrons of all ages. We strive to maintain a balanced collection of materials for informational, educational, and recreational needs. The library serves as a place for all to discover the joy of reading and the value of libraries.

The Library Board meets the first Monday of the month at 5 p.m. in the library meeting room. Public welcome.
