COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF EXHAUST SYSTEMS OF PULSAR 200 AND PULSAR 200 NS

OBJECTIVES: Model the exhaust systems of Pulsar 200 and Pulsar 200 NS Study the temperature distribution, design of an exhaust system The back pressure influence on the engine performance. Carry out analysis using CFD tool and compare and contrast results. Procedure to be followed: 1) Obtain literature regarding CFD analysis on exhaust systems and the basic aspects of design of a exhaust system. 2) Acquire external dimensions of the exhaust systems of the two bikes by manual measurement. 3) Learn the basic operational layout of a CFD software( STAR CCM+ or XFLOW) 4) Model the exhaust manifold, muffler and silencer(the whole exhaust system) using CATIA V5.

5) Obtain the initial entry conditions of temperature and pressure by theoretical calculation based on specifications of the engine. 6) Import models from CATIA and perform analysis 7) Since the internal layout is not known few different designs are incorporated by assumption based on journals or papers released on the subject (literature) 8) The results are compared for various configurations of the exhaust systems 9) The back pressure obtained in each case is studied and analyzed. The back pressure influences efficiency of an engine inversely. 10) Conclusions are made and a report is prepared.
