ARIS Test Scenario Composer (ATSC)

For Process Based Testing
Introduction
Over the past few years, IDS Scheer Netherlands has developed several best-practice solutions. These are now standard available as ARIS Advanced Solutions that allows your organization to get the most out of ARIS: 4 ARIS ProcessWeb: for optimal organizational insight 4 ARIS Advanced Reporting: for optimal analysis options And recently 4 ARIS Test Scenario Composer (ATSC): for creating process based end-to-end test scenarios
4 Do your test activities place a significant burden on your resource capacity and budgets? 4Are you not sure that all risks are covered by your test plans? 4Would you like to perform impact analyses on process changes? If your answer to one or more questions is yes, then ARIS Test Scenario Composer (ATSC) is the solution you are looking for.

What is ATSC?
ATSC allows you to create end-to-end test scenarios from your business blueprint as designed in ARIS. It is an add-on for ARIS Business Architect or ARIS Business Designer. Initial business requirements are often far removed, when implementing IT systems, especially when it comes to testing. With ATSC, youve found the missing link between business and IT. ATSC enables you to define process based test plans for Integration and Functional Acceptance Tests. Even in the blueprint phase of your project ATSC can help by testing your design. ATSC maintains test plans, even when processes are updated in ARIS. Test data reflects always the actual state of your business processes. Moreover ATSC is an analysis tool: it gives you insight in the completeness and consistency of your tests.

How does ATSC work?

ATSC is based on the following steps: 1. Compose test paths within existing process models 2. Define End-to-End Test Scenarios based on the previous composed test paths

3. Ensure that all relevant test paths, activities, transactions, and risks are adequately covered by the test plans by using the analysis report 4. Export the End-to-End Test Scenarios After these four simple steps youve collected all relevant test scenarios, which you can use as a basis for your Integration or Functional Acceptance Testing.

Functionalities
4 ATSC creates images of the test paths in models graphics 4 ATSC reports the actual validity of test paths 4 ATSC E2E test scenarios can be exported in ARIS as test models,
ready to be synchronized with SSM (only available for ARIS with SAP) 4 ATSC E2E test scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information can be exported as Excel sheet to test management tools as HP Quality Center or IBM Rational TestManager 4 ATSC E2E test scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information can be exported to Excel or Word as test plans, complete with test paths in model graphics for manual testing. 4 ATSC has an analysis report that offers insight in completeness and consistency of your test plans, inclusive transactions, roles, risks and controls 4 Automated functionality to re-use test scenarios at implementation projects initially created for a template project

ATSC offers the following export methods: 4 ATSC can produce end-to-end test scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information in Excel or Word, complete with test paths in model graphics for manual testing 4 ATSC can produce end-to-end scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information in Excel that can be imported in test management tools as HP Quality Center or IBM Rational TestManager 4 If you have ARIS for SAP, ATSC can create test models in one of your test projects, ready for synchronization with SAP Solution Manager

Checks for Completeness and Consistency

How do you know if your Test Scenarios cover all your important processes? ATSC provides you with an intelligent analysis tool that shows you which activities, risks, transactions, and all other relevant items have been included. More importantly, it gives insight what has been excluded. You can easily see whether and if so how many times transactions, other system or manual process steps will be tested, by whom it is tested, with what responsibilities. You see what risks or transactions are tested and vice versa: when a process or risk is updated, what tests must be carried out? This analysis will help you during the initial creation of your test scenarios, but it remains applicable for maintenance and further development.

Reference
ATSC is used for an extensive template project at an international beer brewery, with more than 190 test plans. ATSC will be additionally used for the implementation projects in 8 different countries of which the first one is already started.
