Impedance Bond(Non-resonated)
The Style MJS Impedance Bond was specifically developed in 1979 to overcome the installation and service problems associated with bond cases which project well below the upper face of sleepers. The latter are entirely unsuitable for installation in the fourfoot of track laid on concrete beds. They also suffer damage where there is excessive track movement on ballast. The Style MJS Impedance Bond is entirely contained within the space between sleeper face and rail surface, but its specification is almost identical to that of the Style MJX (Piece No Ml 1109). Because of its unique construction, its manufacturing cost is lower than that of the Style MJX.

Construction and protection

The traction winding of the Style MJS bond is formed by two identical elongated coils wound with multiple high-conductivity copper busbar and interleaved Class H insulation. The coils have round ends and long straight sides and, after stacking, interconnecting and terminating with

heavy copper busbar, the straight sides are enclosed with several gapped C cores - the complete unit fulfilling the same function as the conventional cored winding of the Style MJX bond. The complete assembly of c o i l s and cores is dried at a high temperature, vacuum impregnated while hot with Class H insulating varnish, and, after stoving, hot-dipped in the same varnish to give additional enveloping coats. The dip-coating is followed by a further stoving cycle. This

comprehensive protective process ensures that the bonds will withstand the most severe service conditions including complete immersion, as would occur in flooded track conditions. The coil/core assembly is clamped to a folded base of heavy steel plate which is protected by hot-dip galvanising. A cover of the same material and coating protects the internal assembly. Busbars extend beyond one end of the
