Separating recyclables will be a prac-
tice of the past for Burlington County
residents in May with the implementa-
tion of streamlined recycling.
The big blue cart, which residents
currently use for cardboard and paper,
will soon be an all-purpose recycling
tool.
Single-stream is convenient, increases
recycling volume and saves money, the
countys website says.
Currently, the county is working to
find out whether residents are in need of
the signature blue cart, or a second cart
to supplement the amount of recyclables
put to the curb each week.
If residents currently have a 48-gallon,

said Don Brauckmann, township
director of parks and recreation
and community relations.
According to a township re-
lease, an estimated 3,000 residents
from all over the surrounding
area, including Cinnaminson,
Riverton, Palmyra and
Moorestown, attended last years

The business community,
local police, fire and township
services, school and civic associa-
tions, Girl and Boy Scouts, sports
programs, and various other local

as informative for all. Our goal is

to continue to improve this event
and with your help, we will be
successful, the release said.
Its a rather huge event for
us, Brauckmann said. Vendors
set up their tables all along the
park for everyone to peruse.
Of the vendors, the township
allows non-profit organizations to
sell merchandise and items for
fundraising.
All other businesses are only
allowed to provide samples and
coupons to their establishments.
The township will be providing
food, hot dogs and pretzels and
additional restaurant tables will
be set up for people to sample and
try food.
According to Brauckmann, the
sample tables will be dispersed
among the other businesses, to
avoid the conflict of long lines ex-
perienced at last years event.
Children will be entertained at
the event with a play area.
Additional entertainment in-
cludes a DJ, local performers and
demonstrations from aerobics
and dance studios.
Its a really great day to show-
case whats going on in Cin-
naminson, and its a great day in
the park, Brauckmann said.
Police, fire and EMS will be on
hand providing demonstrations
as well.
You go table-to-table and get to
see everything. Its just a really
cool day, Brauckmann said.
Brauckmann recommends res-
idents and guests visit to discover
what Cinnaminson has to offer.
Additionally, those interested in
moving into town will have the
chance to acquaint themselves
with what Cinnaminson is all
about.
If you want to see whats
going on in Cinnaminson, this is
the event for you, Brauckmann
said. Its our community day. Its
a showcase of everything Cin-
naminson.
Cinnaminson Day is scheduled
for Sunday, Sept. 22 at Wood Park
from noon-4 p.m. with Oct. 6
scheduled as the rain date.

64-gallon or 96-gallon cart, theyre
asked to visit the county website
to determine whether they need a
second one before May.
To determine whether an extra
one is needed, residents are asked
to visit the website
www.co.burlington.nj.us/pages/p
ages.aspx?cid=1024#FAQS to de-
termine their usage and if anoth-
er cart is needed. The deadline for
registration is Sept. 30.
According to the county, it is es-
timated that more than 30,000
homes may need an extra cart, of
differing sizes. It will take months
to gather everyones information,
order the carts, and deliver the
right size carts to the right homes
next spring. And keep plastic
bags out of recycling buckets and
carts.
According to director of public
works Ben Young, residents in
the township should already own
the blue carts.
Our town does a good job recy-
cling. We spent the money to buy
the blue containers in 2008 and
paid them off over time, Young
said.
Despite most residents owning
the blue carts, Young wants resi-
dents to be aware of whether
theyll need a second cart.
As empty nesters, Young and
his wife fill the cart each week.
Maybe Im the oddball, but its
interesting because were going
to need a second container,
Young said, noting residents
should investigate their needs
and meet the countys Sept. 30
deadline.
Im an avid believer in recy-
cling I was right on board from
the first time we had to buy a con-
tainer, Young said.
According to the county, not
only is the program free of
charge for residents, but the fre-
quency of service will not
change.
According to the county, stud-
ies show single-stream brings
with it an increase of 10 percent
or more in recycling. The more
people recycle, the less waste
there is in landfills. Last year, re-
cycling saved the towns more
than $3.2 million in landfill tip-
ping fees. Those cost-savings are
effectively tax savings, since they
improve the bottom line of mu-
nicipal budgets.
Currently, major facility modi-
fications are being made to the
Robert C. Shinn Recycling Center
in Westampton. Following that,
new single-stream sorting equip-
ment will be installed, according
to the county.
For more information on the
program or how to register for an
additional cart, visit

welve years have passed since
the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on
New York City and Washing-
ton, D.C.
Thats hard to believe.
Its hard to believe that it was 12
years ago that this country changed
forever.
Its hard to believe that it was 12
years ago that so many innocent lives
were lost.
Its hard to believe how much our
lives have changed in those 12 years
how heightened security at public
places, especially airports, is expected
and openly accepted; how a persons
privacy is not always private; how
farewell and welcome home celebra-
tions for servicemen and women seem
to be commonplace.
There are so many other examples
to mention of how our lives have
changed since that fateful day 12 years
ago.
Here we are, more than a decade
later, with 9/11 as a memory for all of
us who lived it, and a history lesson
for those who didnt.
Twelve years later, we should all be
proud of the way we are remembering
and honoring those who lost their
lives that day as well as their families,
and also the servicemen and women
and their families who so bravely
have volunteered to serve this country.
In addition to annual memorials put
on at the national level, local commu-
nities are playing a large part, too. Our
community, and others around us, are
setting up 9/11 memorials, obtaining
steel from the World Trade Center to
display and hosting 9/11 remem-
brances.
We should all be proud of ourselves
and our fellow citizens. But we should
not stop here just because we have
done well so far.
We should never forget what hap-
pened 12 years ago. We should always
respectfully pause and respect those
who were taken from us and those
who fight for our freedom.
And we should ensure that those
who werent alive 12 years ago, or were
too young to remember, are taught
about what happened that day, and
how it will continue to affect our lives
and theirs.
We will never forget.
We will never forget
Twelve years later, we continue to remember those lives lost on 9/11

Anything possible with back to school time
By JANET TUMELTY
Special to The Sun
I remember that overwhelming feeling of
excitement at the start of a new school year.
Who would my teachers be? Who would be
in my classes? A new school year held so
many possibilities.
It was literally a clean slate (or chalk-
board) waiting for the new school years un-
written story.
Here in our little corner of the world,
Cinnaminson schools are getting busy
again. The kids have lucked out and scored
an extra week of summer vacation, but the
teachers are hard at work making plans
and setting up their classrooms. School
buses are around town checking out their
new routes. We all wait by the front door to
see if the mailman has
those magic letters from
school detailing our
kids schedules and pro-
viding us with the best
kept secrets in town
who their teachers are.
I see the excitement
in my childrens faces
as they try on new
clothes and pack their
book bags with their
new supplies. The idea that anything is pos-
sible overwhelms them as it did me when I
was their age. Yes, they are a little sad to
give up the carefree days of summer, but a
challenging school year and fall season of
sports and activities awaits. They cant help
but look forward to it.
As a parent, the beginning of the school
year leaves me conflicted. I am ready to end
the constant sibling bickering, and it will
be nice to have a clean house again, but
there is something bittersweet about the
first day of school.
As much as I love the routine, each new
first day reminds me that, at some point,
my kids will be moving on to college and
their own lives. One day, there wont be a
first day of school for my girls and I will
miss that hectic scrambling to get out the
door with lunch and bags and everything
else.
What will I do then?
Im sure this feeling resonates with
many parents, especially those who are
