Excitation Current Test Using High Voltage at Primary Winding of Power Transformer
Sir, Have a nice day! I have a question with regards in testing of Excitation Current Test. 1. How to conduct a test set up excitation current testing of DELTA - WYE, WYE DELTA and WYE - WYE winding of power transformer using CPC100 with CPTD1. Considering High Voltage use for the said testing like (test voltage of 10KV at primary side)? 2. What test card for this testing?

Dear Rodeo, In order to perform a proper excitation current measurement of a transformer, you have to measure each phase separately for the primary and secondary site. The excitation current will be measured via the input IN A of the TD1 unit. Depending on the vector group of the transformer, you have to connect as follows:

Wye (with star point) vector group: - HV output at phase L1 (U) and IN A at the star point (N) - HV output at phase L2 (V) and IN A at the star point (N) - HV output at phase L3 (W) and IN A at the star point (N)

Delta vector group: - HV output at phase L1 (U) and IN A at phase L2 (V) - HV output at phase L2 (V) and IN A at phase L3 (W) - HV output at phase L3 (W) and IN A at phase L1 (U) All other bushing terminals will remain open. For above mentioned test setup you have to use the Tan Delta test card. The measuring mode will be UST-A and for the test result just define the impedance Z in the drop down menu. Concerning the test voltage, we would like to suggest using several test points from 1kV up to 12kV, or the max. rated voltage at the primary site, in order to check how the excitation current will behave over the rising voltage. In order to avoid any influences in regards to the test results from external distortions, it is recommended to test at another frequency instead of line frequency, for instance at 60.5 Hz with a small bandwidth.
