mobility.Itselectricmotordevelopsoutputof125kW/170hpusingpowersuppliedbya lithiumionbatterypackmountedinalow,centralpositioninthecarsunderbody.Likethe extraordinarilylightyetextremelyrigidCFRPpassengercell,theelectricdrivesystemand batterywerealsodevelopedandproducedbytheBMWGroup.TheBMWi3weighsjust1,195 kilograms(DINkerbweight)andoffersarangeof130160kilometres(approx.80100miles) ineverydaydriving.Thiscanbeincreasedtoamaximum300kilometres(approx.180miles)if thetwocylinderrangeextendercombustionengineisspecified.
