By: Kent Hutchison THE REPORTER EDGERTON- At the onset of the backyard brawl between the Edon Blue Bombers and Edgerton Bulldogs, the guests made it very clear they had no intentions of heading home without a victory. After putting 46 points on the board last week, the Bombers quick strike offense picked right up where they left off shooting out to a 35-6 halftime advantage, and overcoming 13 penalties on the way to caging the Bulldogs by a score of 48-26. The aerial assault that amassed a school record 349 yards last week, took little time to get fired back up. Starting the night on their 32 yard line, Quarterback Kaden Sapps first attempt sailed off target, then running back Trevor Green was dropped for a two yard loss. Facing third and twelve Sapp connected with Connor Hug for a 23 yard gain. Sapp called his own number for a six yard pick up, then added 23 more to his passing stats when he hit Brock Thiel. With the ball now resting at the Bulldog 25, Sapp found a new target, Mike Peeples, on a bubble screen in the left flat. Peeples followed the wall and broke free for the touchdown. After Sapp hit Green for the two-point conversion, the Bombers had covered the sixty-eight yards to the end zone in just 1:44. The Bomber defense held the Bulldogs in check their first two possessions, while Edgerton returned the favor once to Edon. However, the Boys in Blue got the ball back on their 31 yard line with 4:07 remaining in the first quarter. A completed pass from Sapp to Thiel gained four, except the play was nullified by a holding call. Backed up to their 17, the Edon O heated up in no time. Sapp hit Peeples on a post over the middle for a 51 yard gain and Green added four more on the ground. It was Sapp to Hug once again, this time for a 28 yard touchdown and still 3:06 was left on the clock. After the extra point attempt by Peeples missed right, Edon was left with a 14-0 advantage. Edgerton added a little spark to the flame when Duane Miller hit Dallas King on the first play from scrimmage for a 60 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was not good, but suddenly the Dawgs were right back in it trailing 14-6. Edon needed just 58 seconds to respond to the Bulldog score. Sapp ran for five, then after an incompletion he let Landon Bloir join the parade to pay dirt when the duo connected for a 52 yard scoring strike. Thiel grabbed the 2 point pass from Sapp to increase the Bomber advantage to 22-6 with 1:49 remaining in the opening period. Edgerton returned the kickoff to their 36 yard line and promptly gained five more on an Edon offsides penalty. However that was about all the Bomber defense allowed and the Bulldogs punted the ball back just into the second stanza. Thiel returned the kick to the Bomber 33, and then the ground game took two turns. Green moved the chains with a ten yard run, followed by a 20 yard jaunt by Sapp. Hug caught a toss for four yards on first down moving the ball to the Edgerton thirty-seven. Sapp had Thiel open just short of the goal line, but the aerial was just high. The junior quarterback added ten more on the turf before finding Hug for their second TD of the night from 23 yards out. The extra point by Peeples sailed true; however the kick was nullified an illegal procedure infraction. Sapp tried another toss to Hug for the conversion; however the ball fell to the ground leaving the Bombers with a 28-6 lead with 10:12 left in the quarter. Edgerton appeared to be poised to cut the deficit when they moved the ball from their 45 to the Bomber 17 in 2:30. However, the premise came to a crashing halt when Jordan Whitaker pounced on an Edgerton fumble at their 22 yard stripe. Edon moved the ball to the 27, after a Bulldog offsides penalty, and needed just 1:43 to cover the 73 yards for another score. Sapp to Thiel moved the ball 37 yards, but Sapp lost three on the ground. Another completion to Bloir added 32 more. Sapp sprinted through the heart of the Bulldog defense to cover the final ten yards. Peeples split the uprights as the lead was pushed to 35-6 in favor of the Bombers. Edgerton marched back on offense with 5:42 left in the half. They methodically marched the ball to the Bomber 20, in just over three minutes. However, history repeated itself as the Bulldogs put the pigskin on the turf and the Bomber defense swarmed on the loose CONTINUED ON PAGE 3 By: Timothy Kays THE REPORTER The Hilltop Cadets and the Antwerp Archers both found themselves in an offensive blackout during their respective week one season openers. On September 6, they faced each other at Daft Field in West Unity. To say something would have to give would be an understatement, as things changed with this game. Both teams had offensive breakthroughs compared to last week, with the Cadets discovering the pass behind new signal caller, Quinn Smith. Unfortunately for the Cadets, their propensity to shoot themselves in the foot continued, and Antwerp rode the mistakes to a 30-18 win. The biggest flaw, the susceptibility to being suckered out of position by the option, became painfully obvious for the Cadets defense right out of the gate. Unable to stop an Antwerp option offense that rang up 308 yards on the night, the Cadets found themselves down by six after a 31-yard run around the left side with 8:26 left in the first. Jalen Towers and Justin Grapengeter led an avalanche of red into the backfield to block the PAT kick, but the tone of the evening was set. Smith led the Hilltop offense onto the field, and another area in need of improvement immediately came to the fore as the first down pass was dropped. The second down play was another pass that netted a first down at midfield. The drive died on downs at the Antwerp 44 though, giving the Archers the ball. Their drive also died on downs, giving ... Montpelier Locomotives Get No Traction In Tiger Country, Shut Out By Liberty Center

HOUDINI ACT ... Dallas Royer of Montpelier escapes the pileup and heads into the secondary. By: Storm Humbert THE REPORTER The Montpelier Locomotives travelled to Liberty Center on Friday, September 6 to face off against the Tigers. Though the history between the two teams includes 88 games and the overall record is pretty even (44-40-4 in favor of Liberty Center) its been pretty one-sided of late. And, sadly for Montpelier, this game proved to be no CIAO! ... With a full head of steam, Brock Thiel of Edon busts into the Edgerton exception. Things were bad from the start. The secondary. visiting Locos would start with the ball since Liberty Center won the toss and deferred, however, the opening kickoff was fumbled and the home team Tigers recovered. LC scored in just three plays making it a quick 7-0. The first drive after the kickoff debacle, the Locos showed some real life. They moved the ball quickly and efficiently against the Tigers and soon found themselves on the home teams side of the field facing a third down with CONTINUED ON PAGE 3

Edon possession at their 25 yard line. Green moved the ball 6 yards on the ground, and a personal foul on Edgerton, and then offsides on the Bulldogs advanced the ball to just past the 50 yard line. A bad taste was left in the mouth of the Bombers as the shotgun exchange sailed high and Sapp recovered the errant snap back at the Edon 35 yard line as the quarter ended. The final frame started like the previous one ended for the Bombers. A Sapp pass intended for Thiel fell incomplete. Then Edon went to the well once too often as the bubble screen was read perfectly by Edgertons Alex Michaels as he stepped in front of the toss returning the pick to the 11 yard line. The Bulldog offense was frothing for a comeback as they sprinted back on the attack with 11:36 left in the game. A low snap to Miller moved the leather back to the sixteen. Two incompletions followed setting the stage for the Bombers put to rest any notions of a Bulldog uprising. Facing third and 15, Miller dropped back once again to pass. Peeples read the mind of the Edgerton signal caller as he stepped in front of the toss racing 84 yards away from the pack to seal the deal. Somehow there was still enough adrenaline left in the body of number 3 to split the posts and drive the margin to 48-18 with 10:49 still to play. Edgerton somehow dug deep enough to answer with a thirteen play, 63 yard drive that consumed over five minutes off the clock to cut the spread to the final of 48-26. The Bomber reserves received an opportunity the final 5:18 of the contest and showed some bright glimpses of the future. Freshman Blake Thiel took over where Sapp left off as he ran for 25 yards straight up the gut, then added five more only to have it taken away on the 13th and final Bomber penalty of the night. Cameron Winners Castillo busted off a run of 13 yards, and then Jordan Julian and everyone in attendance heard his name over the PA after gaining a yard. The younger and faster Thiel added another yard to his total and Julian added two more on fourth down, putting the lid on the awesome offensive output by the Bombers. For the second straight week, Sapp ended the night with the aforementioned school passing record of 416 yards, finishing 14-27 with five touchdown tosses, and one rushing TD. Peeples led the receiving corps with 3 catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, along with the 84 yard interception TD. Hug had 6 grabs for 90 yards and two scores, Bloir added 2 snags for 87 yards and one run to the endzone, and Brock Thiel finished with 3 receptions for 100 yards. Blake Thiel led the ground game with 2 carries for 26 yards; Sapp carried the ball 12 times for 20 yards, while Green gained 16 yards on 7 totes. Winner Castillo picked up 13 yards on one carry and Julian 3 yards on two attempts. Now 2-0, Edon takes the trek a little further south down Route 49 Friday into Defiance County. The Bombers will have to face the tough task of invading Hicksville. The Aces, although 0-2 to begin the season, will provide the toughest test yet for the Bombers. with Hilltop staring down a 22-6 deficit. The Archers put the dagger in with just 32 seconds gone in the fourth. The Hilltop defense held on a fourth and goal from their own six. Needing to make up for lost time and lost points, the Cadets were returning to the air...and the Archers were waiting for just that. The first down pass fell incomplete, as did the second down pass. On third down, Smith fired the ball over the middle, where it was intercepted at the line of scrimmage and returned for a pick-six. The two-point PAT made it 30-6, but Smith and the Cadet Cadre were far from finished. Towers blindsided the Antwerp quarterback before he could execute the option, forcing and recovering a fumble that gave the hometown boys the ball at their own 40. The offense misfired, but the defense buried Antwerp with a third and 27. As it had been all night, another option run made it a fourth and two. It came as no surprise that the Archers elected to try the option again on fourth down, but they ran it directly at Cayden Blaisdell, who blew the play up short of the first down marker at their 35. The Cadet offense went back to work. The Cadets quickly found themselves staring at a fourth and ten, but a quick flip right to Austin Batt moved the chains with a 15-yard gain. The drive ended when Abner took a little toss in the backfield, went around the left side, cut to his right and ran the ball 30 yards for a score with 4:59 left. After a false start penalty, the PAT failed, but the score was 30-12, and the Cadets were still working the clock for more. Hilltop executed an onside kick to perfection on the ensuing kickoff, recovering the ball in Antwerp territory. With the defense expecting Smith to unload, they were double-crossed when Smith gave the ball to Champion, who blew through the defense for a 40-yard score. The PAT failed again, and the scoring came to an end with Hilltop on the short end of a 30-18 decision. Smith was 11 of 33 for 177 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 picks in his debut. Champion snagged 3 passes for 81 yards and a score, while Abner grabbed 4 for 58 yards and a touchdown. Grapengeter had a catch for 19 yards, Batt one for 14, and Logan Brooker one for 8. Champion ran the ball 5 times for 58 yards and a touchdown, while Abner went 6 times for 40 yards. Smith ran 9 times for 20 yards, Grapengeter went once for 14, and David Smith ran once for 2 yards. RETURN OF THE RUNAWAY TRUCK ... Miklo Abner explodes into the Antwerp secondary. the Cadets the ball back on their own 27. Again the Cadets were unable to move the ball, and they punted the ball away. The quarter ended with Antwerp up by six, and moving the ball via the option. With 7:58 remaining in the half, a pitch right resulted in an untouched three-yard run into the endzone to make the score 12-0. A quick hitter to an undefended receiver on the left side converted the two-point PAT, making the score 14-0. The Cadets again found nothing but frustration on the offense, but the defense had some success in keeping the Archers out of the endzone, leaving the score at 14-0 at the half. Hilltop took the opening kick in the second half, and went straight to work. Grapengeter went around the right side for a 14-yard gain to the Hilltop 29. Chad Champion took an end around to the left for six yards. Smith pulled the ball down and went up the gut for a short gain, making it third and three. Miklo Abner took the next run off left guard to move the sticks and give Hilltop a first down at their own 39. From there, the Cadets finally fired their first big salvo of the season. With 9:35 remaining in the third, Smith found Champion on a short quick hitter around the left side. The senior tailback did the rest, cutting back toward the middle of the field then hitting the afterburners for a 61-yard touchdown. The PAT kick was blocked, but finally, after six quarters and change, the Cadets had their first touchdown of the year. Sensing the potential for a momentum swing, the Archers went back to their old reliable...the option. Piece by piece, the real estate added up until with 3:55 left in the third, a one-yard run reopened the 14-point lead for Antwerp. The lead expanded to 16 with the twopoint PAT pass, and the quarter closed

Sapp to Thiel was good for 47 more, and Green galloped for nine on the ground. Following two incompletions, Sapp followed his line straight up the middle for 2 yards and the first down. However a high snap resulted in a loss of nineteen and a sack lost another 10 yards to send the game to halftime. What a half it was as Edon led 35-6. Sapp had already broken the passing yardage record he set the week before as he finished 12-20 for 355 yards, with four passing touchdowns and another on the ground. The start to the second half mimicked the first for the home team as Edon held the Bulldogs to a three and out. Edgerton punted the ball to the Edon 29 yard line. However, the turnover bug bit the Bombers on their first offensive play of the half. Edgerton pounded the ball on the ground in nine plays to paydirt quickly cutting the deficit to 35-12. After exchanging punts, Edon got the ball back on their 19 yard line. Sapp lost the handle on first down, but was saved by the hands of Wyatt Zulch. However the trouble was just beginning. A holding penalty followed, and then another miscue led to Edgerton recovery five yards short of the goal line. The opportunistic Dogs needed just two plays this time to cross the white stripe of happiness and suddenly the seemingly insurmountable halftime lead was down to 35-17. Edgerton realized they needed points quickly and attempted an onside kick. However, the Bombers were not surprised and covered the ball at their 45 yard marker. The offense still looked like deer in the headlights as the drive started with a false start penalty and an incomplete pass. Abruptly momentum made a 180 degree turn back in favor of the Edon. Sapp hit Peeples with another bubble screen in front of the Bomber bench. The senior split end zigged and zagged across the field and back until he was all alone with nothing but green grass and a goal post in front of him. Understandably winded, the Peeples kick was off target. However, the jaunt pushed the Edon lead to 41-18 with 1:17 left in the third quarter. The score provided a much needed boost of fuel into the Bombers tank as Sapp picked off a Miller throw giving

ticked off the scoreboard. The very next Montpelier possession, not very far into it, Keegan Hitzeman hurled a pass deep that wound up in the hands of Liberty Centers Anthony Righi (defensive back as well as Liberty Centers leading rusher for the game with nearly 200 yards) this was returned for a touchdown in dynamic fashion with more than one or two or three broken tackles to put the Tigers in the end zone yet again. Montpelier went into halftime down 27-0. By the end of the game, it was 54-0. The Locos gave it their all, but the Tigers just seemed too big and too fast this year, but theres a lot of senior talent that will be shedding their stripes come next year so the Locos will, as always, have next year to look forward to in terms of revenge for a solid defeat this year. Next week, the Montpelier boys will face the Patrick Henry Patriots, and the only people who wouldnt love to see them win it are the Patriots themselves. only two to go. Before the snap, the Liberty Center nose tackle clearly jumped and even touched Montpeliers center right on the helmet to brace himself. Nothing was called, the play went off, and Montpelier found themselves punting. Still, the Locos fought hard. On Liberty Centers next possession, with the Tigers pushing deep into Montpelier territory, the defense made a tough stand just outside their own red zone. They stopped the Tigers on a huge fourth down with only two yards to go. This gave the Montpelier offense the ball and swung some momentum in their favor. This push, however,

was not enough. The drive which started with the big turnover on downs caused by the fourth down stand was short lived three and out. From this point forward, Liberty Center dominated the game on both sides of the ball. The Tigers quickly put more points on the board with a 39 yard touchdown after a decent punt return. The home team gained further momentum by recovering a fumble on the first play of Montpeliers next drive. Liberty Center was quickly in the end zone again having scored, now, two touchdowns in the previous two minutes. The Locomotive luck didnt improve as time

Edon Lady Bombers Zapped In Straight Sets By Antwerp In A Route 49 Rumble

EDON - The Antwerp Lady Archers shot down the Edon Lady Bombers in straight sets on the evening of August 29, 26-24, 25-16 and 25-22. Alex Kiess went 15/15 serving and Kaela Gearhart was 14/14 for Edon. Kiess had 40 sets, with Kaitlyn Manahan adding 31. Nicole Newell drilled 6 kills and had 17 digs, and Kaitlin Chrisman added 14.

BREAKAWAY ... Bueter takes off on a 22-yard gain to put the Indians in scoring position. By: Bill Bray THE REPORTER The final meeting between the rte. 108 rivals will go down in the history books as belonging the Wauseon Indians as the Tribe dominated the Napoleon Wildcats 34-21 Friday at Harmon Field. Napoleon wasted little time in taking the early lead on a five play, 61 yard drive. On a halfback pass, Zach Strall found Anson Lankenau all by himself in the secondary for a 45-yard strike at the 9:42 mark. Wauseon answered right back. On their first play from scrimmage, Ty Suntken completed a 36 yard pass to Kris Boysel and the Indians were on the move. Three plays later Suntken connected with his big tight end, Noah Castle for a 35 yard touchdown pass as the Indians covered the 80 yards in four plays. Josh Whitcomb's kick was good and the Indians tied it up at 7-7 with 8:00 left in the first quarter. Napoleon had one more chance to score in the first quarter, but a beautifully executed blocked field goal attempt by Nate Suntken ended the threat and gave the momentum back to Wauseon. The second quarter saw the Indians strike first on an 11 yard pass from Suntken to Zac Robinson at the 7:16 mark of the quarter. The seven-play 73 yard drive included the arm of Suntken once again as the senior leader hit Castle with a 14 yard strike, then found Derek Rupp for a 39 yard gain. The Indians lost a fumble that led to a Napoleon score on their next possession. The Wildcats took full advantage taking over possession on the Wauseon 35 yard line. Four plays later they were in the end zone when Devon Armour galloped 25 yards to paydirt with 1:37 left in the half. Logan Peckinpaugh's kick was good and the game was again tied at 14-14. Wauseon second fumble occurred on their next possession and again the mistake cost them as Napoleon used the remaining seconds perfectly for a 4-play 41 yard drive to take a late first half lead 2114 on a 12-yard pass from Blake Dunbar to Nate Rohrs with :06 seconds left on the clock. The Indians came out in the second half fired up, and Ty and Nate Suntken had a special motivator to keep them focused on the game as a side light to this game story. Suntken's grandmother, Diane Suntken, was seeing four of her grandsons play. She also had two grandsons on the Napoleon team. She had never seen Ty play before and Suntken was well aware that his Grandma was on hand to watch. And in the second half of action he certainly did not disappoint her. Suntken started by bursting for a 36 yard hard fought run to the Napoleon 13. The offensive line of Caleb Andrews, Josh Kauffman, Alec Vonier, Anthony Werder and Cesar Juarez continued throughout the second half to open huge holes for their backs. After taking a loss back to the 21 yard line, Suntken found Boysel for a 21 yard touchdown strike to bring Wauseon to within one point at 21-20. Whitcomb missed the extra point to the right. The Indians defense led by Aaron Schuette, Vonier and company thwarted the Wildcats on their next possession and took over the ball at the Wauseon 32. The big play of what would prove to be the next Wauseon scoring drive was again with a Suntken to Boysel connection for 25 yards to the Napoleon 43. Five plays later the Indians, with the churning legs of Suntken went ahead on the quarterback's four yard touchdown run giving the Indians a 26-21 lead. The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds welcomed in Ayersville for a round of volleyball on August 29, and the visitors threw everything but the kitchen sink at their hosts. In the end, the Ladybirds avoided the need for a fifth set tiebreaker by dispatching the stubborn Lady Pilots in four sets, 25-20, 27-29, 25-15 and 25-21. COLUMBUS GROVE - The firm of Vernot, Volkman, Archibeque and Wyse has the ring of a high power legal team. Although they are not high-price lawyers, they certainly have the high power gig down stone cold. This group of ladies were up front as their Wauseon Lady Indians placed second in the August 31 Columbus Grove Invitational. The Tribe power was made more than apparent by looking at the numbers. Taylor Vernot placed first overall...44 seconds ahead of the runner up. Aneesa Volkman took third, and Aleea Volkman was thirteenth. The #20 spot belonged to Kylie Archibeque, and Seneca Wyse was 24th. WAUSEON - The Wauseon Indians got back on the winning track with an August 29 4-1 win over Archbold, as singles players Ellie Hayati, Sally Frank and Mackenzie Eberly were all winners. Hayati got a 6-4, 7-5 win over Krista Leupp in first singles, while Frank easily defeated Olivia Krieger 6-2, 6-0. Eberly had the most challenging match but was able to beat Marli Fryman 7-6 (9-7) 6-4. In doubles play Ashlyn Boyers and Vicky Kahrs were beaten 2-6, 2-6 by Hannah Hesterman and Shelby Cline. By: Timothy Kays THE REPORTER STRYKER - When it comes to being recognized as a team to be reckoned with, the Wauseon Indians have little to nothing to prove. At the 2013 Panther Invitational on September 7, they did it anyway, and they did it in dominating fashion. With senior Clay Tefft hammering a medalist round of 72 and Trevor Dominique going wingman with a 73, the Tribe won the event in convincing style with a team score of 302, easily outgunning second place Hicksville by 21 strokes. BBC rivals North Central and host Stryker tied for the third place finish with scores of 330, with Tanner Clingaman of Stryker hitting a 75 and Branden Turner of North Central firing a 76. The Edon Bombers rode Taylor Schullers 82 to the ninth place finish, while Hilltop placed eleventh behind an 87 from Isaac VanArsdalen. The Montpelier Locomotives finished six strokes off Hilltops pace for a score of 382 and twelfth place behind an 83 from Hunter Shaull. The Pettisville Blackbirds placed 13th behind Matt Krills 88, and with Riley Martin hoisting a 92, the Fayette Eagles took 14th with a score of 396. Named to the 2013 Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team were Tefft and Dominique of Wauseon who finished one-two in scoring, and Tanner Clingaman of Stryker who finished fourth. Delta Panthers Overwhelm Pettisville Kickers On August 29th

PETTISVILLE - The Pettisville Blackbirds found themselves outgunned by Delta on August 29, 5-0. No other stats pertinent to this game were received.

By: Bill Bray THE REPORTER The Pettisville Blackbirds showed their dominance in defeating the Wauseon Indians 4-1 in the soccer rivalry Thursday at the Wauseon Soccer Field. The Indians got on the board first when Leo Rendon kicked a hard shot from the right of the net that bounced off of the hands of the Pettisville keeper and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 17:10. The Blackbirds would come back and score four unanswered goals over the rest of the game. Pettisvilles Troy King tied the game at 1-1 at the 11:55 of the first half, followed by a header goal by Jeff Ramey to give the Blackbirds their first lead with 9:46 remaining in the first half. Two more Blackbird goals in the second half by Chris Waidelich at the 14:29 increased the lead to 3-1 and Connor Tuckerman goal with 4:10 remaining iced the game for Pettisville.

By: Kent Hutchison THE REPORTER STRYKER The Montpelier JH Golf Team, who joins the Buckeye Border Conference for golf matches, took home the low team score of 241 in the contest played on August 29th at Riverside Greens Golf Course. Medalist for the day was Aaron Sidle of Stryker who shot a 49. Fayette and Pettisville did not compete in the match. TOLEDO - The 2013 Pettisville Jr. High soccer team started the season on the road against Maumee Valley Country Day on August 26. The Blackbirds displayed no rust in a resounding 6-1 win. Any questions about the Birds ability to score this year were answered early as Detric Yoder scored off a pass from Landon Roth with 1:50 gone in the opening period. Yoder found the back of the net again one minute later, assisted by Conner Wyse. A goal by Wyse off of a pass from Garrett Young rounded out the scoring for the first half. MVCD brought up the intensity in the second half by scoring on a breakaway, and were close to tightening the score even more when they were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box. Dillon King stayed solid in his goalie position however, and calmly batted away the ensuing free kick. Wyse and Yoder each scored again in the second half as did Eli Greiser who scored on a nice one touch volley at the far post to close out the victory for the Blackbirds.

Pettisville Jr. High Puts The Ache In Lake

LAKE TOWNSHIP, OHIO - On August 27 the Pettisville Blackbirds travelled to Lake for their second game in as many nights. It took a little longer to figure out the Lake defense, but once they did, the Birds went Albert Hitchcock on the Flyers, blitzing their hosts for a 9-1 win. Seven minutes into the game Landon Roth took a pass from Garrett Young and was able to beat the keeper for the first goal of the game. Roth connected later, assisted by Conner Wyse, and the Birds went into halftime with a 2 0 lead. After moving some players around, Lake found new energy and came out in the second half with several good scoring opportunities and closed the gap to 21. Kamryn Hostetler helped the Birds regain the momentum with a deflection goal and the Blackbirds never looked back, rattling off a total of seven unanswered goals. Roth and Detric Yoder added two goals apiece in the second half, while Wyse and Justin Rupp also found the back of the net for the 2-0 Battling Birds. The Blackbirds will host Trinity Lutheran on September 9.

Trine University announces its fall athletic teams. Wyatt Winright, a Trine University freshman majoring in Teacher Education Foundations, is competing on Trines Mens Cross Country team. Winright is from Montpelier, Ohio and a graduate of North Central High School. Matthew Cook, a Trine University freshman majoring in Mechanical Engineering, is competing on Trines Football team. Cook is from Edon, Ohio and a graduate of Edon High School. Nicole Whitmer, a Trine University freshman majoring in Entrepreneurship, is competing on Trines Cheerleading team. Whitmer is from Wauseon, Ohio and a graduate of Wauseon High School. Michael Becker, a Trine University junior majoring in Chemical Engineering, is competing on Trines Mens Cross Country team. Becker is from Wauseon, Ohio and a graduate of Wauseon High School.

WEST UNITY - With no teams present, the junior high runners of Hilltop, Edon and Montpelier competed as individuals in a tri-meet on the afternoon of August 29. The lone Cadet in the boys division, Ben Routhier, placed first overall in the event. Colten Gulick led Montpelier with a second place finish, and Cort Eicher took third place for Edon. Wauseon Announce Athletic Hall Of Fame Members For 2013

Cory Griggs (class of 1995), Katie Griggs (class of 1998), Ryan Huber (class of 1998), Stacy Roth (class of 1998), Under the category of coach is: William Gase, teacher, coach, 1984-2012. The formal induction is scheduled for Saturday, November 30, at the high school, prior to the varsity boys basketball game with Archbold. A reception will follow at the school. Each inductee will receive a plaque, with a duplicate to be displayed prominently in the high school.

Stryker & Wauseon Take On Columbus Grove

COLUMBUS GROVE - The Stryker Panthers and the Wauseon Indians were in the mix at the August 31 Columbus Grove Junior High Invitational. Logan Boetz finished 55th overall to lead the Panthers to the 22nd place team finish. Although they fell a runner short to compete for team points, the Tribe did well with Kyle Vernot leading the way with a 26th place finish. OHSAA Board Of Directors Hold Regular Meeting For September

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors met Thursday for its regularly scheduled September meeting. The following are highlights from the meeting. The complete set of meeting minutes will be posted later at OHSAA.org. - The board reviewed the list of 30 schools that met the 2012-13 OHSAA Respect the Game Challenge. Eighteen of those schools also earned the Harold A. Meyer Award. The OHSAA will issue a separate release Friday with the list of schools and description of the awards. - The girls and boys soccer regional tournament draws were conducted and will be posted on the soccer pages at OHSAA. org. Sectional draw/seed meetings will be held around the state Oct. 6. - The 2014 and 2015 girls and boys track and field divisional alignments and representation were approved by the board and are posted at: http://www.ohsaa.org/ members/sptdivis13.htm - Five schools were recently penalized for committing infractions of OHSAA bylaws or sports regulations. The list of schools, along with their infractions and penalties, is always included in the complete meeting minutes, however media members may request the list prior to the meeting minutes being posted by contacting Tim Stried, OHSAA Director of Information Services, at tstried@ohsaa.org. - The baseball coaches association made two proposals. First, to increase the number of playing dates that an individual player is allowed to participate during the baseball regular season from 27 to 32. (Note this would not change the number of team games permitted, which is 27.) Second, to expand tournament rosters from 18 players to 22. The board is expected to vote on the proposals at its December meeting. - The financial reports from the 2013 regional and state baseball and softball and boys state tennis tournaments were presented to the board. The baseball tournament saw a total state tournament attendance of 15,152, which is the fourthhighest all-time, and resulted in a net profit of $10,203. The softball regional and state tournaments resulted in a loss of $9,850, which included a total state tournament attendance of 6,630. The boys tennis state tournament saw a crowd of 1,141 and resulted in a loss of $5,674. - The board approved a correction to the Division I girls basketball tournament representation. Initially, Marietta High School was incorrectly listed as a Division II school and Chillicothe was listed as a Division I school. It has been corrected (Marietta is Division I and Chillicothe is Division II) and Marietta has been assigned to the Northeast District Athletic Boards list of Division I schools for the sectional and district tournaments. After recalculating the formula to determine the number of regional qualifiers from each district, the addition of one more school to the Northeast resulted in the Northeast gaining one more Division I regional qualifier, while the Northwest lost a Division I regional qualifier. Therefore, the 16 regional qualifiers in Division I girls basketball will be comprised of the following district champions: seven from the Northeast, one from the Northwest, four from the Southwest and four from the Central/East/Southeast combined district. - The board approved the winter sports manuals. The manuals will be posted on the respective sports pages at OHSAA.org. - The board approved the 2013-14 OHSAA General Media Regulations and a one-year extension with Impact Action Sports Photographer to serve as the OHSAAs official state tournament photographer.

COLUMBUS GROVE - Local representation was limited at the Columbus Grove Junior High Girls Invitational on August 31. Only three local ladies were on the course...Mya Suarez and Mya Nicole Riley of Wauseon, and Keyndal Hudson of Stryker. Suarez was first across the line in 41st, followed by Hudson and Riley.
