Reegarding values, interview a nurse you know and ask about the values he/she has applied while working at the area.

The values I applied? Hardwork. Hardwork and hardwork! You know that definition we have that Nursing is both and art and science? That ought to be revised and capitalized as work and, a hard one at that. The long shift and patient care needed to ensue healing and optimum functional of the clients rest heavily on the shoulder of the Nurse; for in my job, it not only entails the clinical aspect but mostly on the collaboration of other profession and community resources. Thus, the value of being resourceful and cooperation; like linking my patients to the Physical therapist, Occupational therapist, Social worker, Day Care Programs, Medical aid.; and, to those victims of abuse: Adult Protective Services. The U.S.A. has a myriad of resources which the nurse can tap to better her clients condition. If you are a hardworking nurse, you get most of the benefits the State has in store mostly at no cost. Another would be upholding value of confidentiality. Here in the U.S., the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act is implemented heavily with sanctions. Also, the meticulous dedication to details. The health system here is much into documentation. You have to note down everything you do. You have no choice with the very high cost of Professional Liability insurance it served a very buffer against possible legal problem. Sad to say, more than 50% of my job as a Nursing Home Operator is spent on documentation for that reason.

Insights or Reactions

I think much of what I learned most about nursing aside from those I read in our textbooks, I learned from this aunt of mine. Since she had the same point of view as mine, I came to understand things. Because a nation such that of the U.S. has set a very high standard in health cares, most practitioners apply the values of hardwork and compassion towards their work, with all honesty in every aspect. Also, because my aunt is dealing with different kinds of people every single day, she has learnt to respect their differences and not to make it as a hindrance in providing quality nursing care. In my opinion, without all the hardwork in doing whatever it is that youre doing, all else fail. Thats why as early as now, you have to completely embrace the chosen field. But above all that, it is the love for your job. The clich, You never have to consider it work if you like doing what youre doing is in all fairness, true. Always remember to love your patients, too. And put yourself, regardless of the differences, in their shoe.
