Song Title Tropic NightBug

Duration
2.34

Origin of Band
Australia. However, the song itself has a sense of British culture through the style/genre (Arctic Monkeys etc).

Genre
Alternative/Indi e Rock.

Recording quality
Clear and Professional.

Vocalist
Good, heard over the instruments. Male vocalist

Lyrics
Lyrics are slightly unclear, therefore hard to base around a narrative. Possibly hinting at a relationship.

Dynamics
The use of various instruments contributes towards the dynamics, for example the synths and chimes at 1.55

Tempo
Varied, although generally fast. This could be problematic in the stages of postproduction.

Structure
A clear structure, in terms of lyrics and music in the sense of intro, verse (instrumental) bridge and chorus. The instrumental bridge can lend itself well to the narrative in terms of momentum.

Additional thoughts
Due to the emphasis on the instruments, the style of song is rather busy possibly enabling a simpler, more ambiguous video. Logistically, this band is appealing as they are situated within Norwich, making a performance based narrative easy to arrange.

Indie Rock.

Clear and professional.

Good, heard over the instruments Male vocalist.

Very clear, readable lyrics, based around a relationship, which can be easily reflected within the storyline.

Particular emphasis on drums, which are quite loud. This therefore affects tempo.

Varied tempo in relation to the structure of the song and the drum beat. For example, 0.24- 0.34; there is no drum beat which creates quite a slow tempo and almost reflective tone. Directly after the drums are introduced in which both tempo and tone change considerably.

Clear structure with a repeated instrumental. However, taking personal preference into account, I feel that this song is too repetitive in the sense that there doesnt seem to be a climatic bridge, which could be very helpful in terms of story and narrative ideas. However the repeated lyrics and structure could hint at a circle narrative?

Alternative.

Clear and professional.

Good, heard over the instruments Male vocalist. Interesting backing vocals also.

Very clear, relatively simple lyrics which could visually, be translated (to meet you at the end) Again, hints at a relationship.

Strong beat, but could be argued as having softer dynamics compared to the previous songs.

Really nice tempo, in particular the build up from the bridge of the song at 2.20

Fade out at the end of the song creates a nice conclusion; not as harsh and abrupt as the previous songs.

The dynamics and tempo create a lot of progression and movement within the piece. This is appealing in terms of music video (movement, journey etc). Song needs cutting to fit requirements. However, the song has a natural end in which the dynamics fade (3.17 or 3.40).

America. However, the genre is very popular in British culture and the accent does not indicate a certain American culture, to which only a location there would be suitable.

Folk/acoustic

Good, heard over the instruments Female Vocalist. In terms of preference, I can envisage a lot more in terms of music video ideas because of the female voice. For example, relate the voice to a female character. Male backing vocals also.

Very clear and easily accessible lyrics which can lend themselves well to visual translation.

Overall, a soft dynamic, but a good balance between loud and soft, particularly with the instrumental sections.

A relatively steady tempo, with slight fast and slow sections, enabling us to experiment more in Post Production.

Clear structure, broken up my instrumental sections. However, not so much of a lyrical chorus/bridge etc. Instead, the structure relates more to the actual music/instruments.
