Generic name: Ketorolac Brand name: Action: Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic.

Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase enzyme. It also inhibits leukotriene synthesis, help stabilize lysosomal membranes and exert anti-bradykinin activity. Indication: Ophthalmic: Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, and for prophylaxis and reduction of inflammation and associated symptoms following ocular surgery. Solution for injection: Short term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain. Contraindication: Active PUD, moderate to severe renal impairment, lactation, dehydration, allergy to ASA or NSAIDs, history of asthma. Adverse effects: Transient stinging and burning on instillation. Inj: GI ulceration, HPN, rash diarrhea, sweating, dizziness. NSG Considerations: Taken with food. Assess for signs of bleeding. Assess patients eyes for redness, swelling, tearing and itching.

Generic name: Brand name: Kefurox-a -lactam type antibiotic. More specifically, it is a second-generation cephalosporin. Action: Interfere with the peptidoglycan synthesis of the bacterial wall by inhibiting the final transpeptidation needed for the cross-links. This effect is bactericidal. Indication: For the treatment of many different types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, skin infections, gonorrhea, and urinary tract infections (bacterial infections).

Generic name: Ambroxol (Mucolytic) Brand name: Action: Exerts its clinical effect through the breakdown of disulphide bonds of mucopolysaccharides of the sputum. This allows the liquification of the viscous bronchial mucous through decreasing its viscosity. Indication: Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Otitis media, Sinusitis, Nasopharyngitis, Tracheobronchitis, Bronchiectasis Adverse effects: fatigue, dry mouth, rhinorrhea, constipation, dysuria and contact dermatitis.

Generic name: Phenylpropanolamine Brand name: Neozep Forte Action: Sympathomimetic amine that causes constriction and shrinkage of mucous membranes. Indication: Symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion. It is frequently used in mixed preparations for the relief of cough and colds symptoms. Contraindication: Patients with hyperthyroidism, severe coronary disease, severe hypertension. Adverse effects: Headache, elevated BP, blurred vision, dizziness, anxiety.

Generic name: dextromethorphan Brand name: Strepsils Lozenges Action: Suppressess cough reflex by direct action on the cough center of the medulla. Indication: Unproductive cough, sore throat. Contraindication: Should not be taken for persistent or chronic cough or when coughing is accompanied by excessive secretions, unless directed by a physician. Adverse effects: nausea, drowsiness, or dizziness.
