What Were Learning Daily 5: We have been working really hard on building our stamina. We have talked a lot about how we need to have a sense of urgency to help ourselves become a better reader. We know that the only way to get better is to read. We built 17 minutes of stamina in one day. We have also talked about our CAFE menu in our classroom. This stands for comprehension: I can understand what I read, Accuracy: I can read the words; Fluency: I can read accurately, with expression, and understand what I read; and finally, Expanded Vocabulary: I know, find and use interesting words. Attached to this newsletter is a Parent Pipeline explaining the comprehension strategy we worked on this week check for understanding. Guidance: Mrs. Breslow came in and shared an important lesson with us this week about invisible strings and our family. We drew a picture of those we care about and placed them in our lockers to look at everyday.

Writers Workshop This week we have been working on ideas for our writing time. We have changed paper because we have so many stories we want to share. Nice job boys and girls coming up with great things for Ms. Van Wyk and I to read.

Little Farmer Field Trip First grade is trying to schedule our annual field trip to Little Farmer Apple Orchard in Fond du Lac. If you are interested in going along with our class for the field trip please know that you must complete a volunteer packet and be approved for going before the field trip. We are looking at going to the orchard on Tuesday, October 22nd. We have not confirmed this date but are trying to confirm it. More info will be coming soon.

Reading Bags Next week we will start sending home books from our classroom library for you or your child to read. Please understand that these books may be at your childs independent reading level or they may be way beyond their reading level. I am sending home a book for your child to enjoy together. Remember that 20 minutes of reading is so important for any child.
