The Commandments were given during a time when they were freed from slavery in Egypt. The Israelite people no longer needed to follow the rules of the Egyptians who treated them as slaves because they are now the Chosen People of God. They will no longer be treated as slaves but the dearest and beloved of God.
The Ten Commandments is the beginning of a new life for the Israelite people. It also marks the beginning of a beautiful relationship between them and God.
