For most of us it responds to the stimulus of a cricket match, on national holidays or situations of armed conflict. Most of the times we are filled with mixed emotions. In our 67th year of independence we need to see freedom not just as a right that was won for us by an earlier generation, but also as a challenge to live up to. I belong to a generation of young Indians who grew up in a liberalised India. I come from a small town and have a middle-class background. Our generation learnt about two waves of entrepreneurs that came before us. The first entrepreneurs led the industrial growth of a newly independent nation; and the second wave leveraged the economic freedom brought by liberalisation in 1991. My generation is still emerging on the business stage. We view business and entrepreneurship very differently. For us growth is driven more by our belief and is less impacted by externalities. For us growth is not just numbers achieved, or even a national presence the eventual vision is world leadership. While this spirit continues to energize us, economic stagnancy may slow us, but it cannot keep us down. Growth comes when entrepreneurs and ordinary people work hard, united behind vision and powered by conviction to make dreams become reality.
