Master Muhammad r. O You who believe! When the call is given to the prayer of the day of Jummah then hasten towards the remembrance of Allah and leave all buying and selling. (62:9)

The last yet the first - We are the last to appear but lead every other faith in celebrating the 'big day' of the week Count your blessings - If we do not value the blessings we enjoy Allah may take it away from us just as He deprived the Jews and Christians of this great favour. Expiation of Sins The five daily Salaat, one Jummah Salaah till the next Jummah Salaah and one Ramadhan till the next Ramadhan are all expiations for the time between them provided that major sins are abstained from. (Muslim) Self- Adornment Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven. (Bukhari) Coming Early for Jummah Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaba and then goes for the prayer (in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrificed a camel (in Allah's cause); and whoever goes in the second hour it is as if he had sacrificed a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour then it is as if he had offered an egg. When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the Khutba), the angels present themselves to listen to the Khutba. (Bukhari) A Light from one Friday to Another: He who recites Surah Al Kahf on a Friday, Allah will provide him with light from one Friday to the next Friday. (Nasai) Sending Salutations to Nabi r: Recite Durood upon me in abundance on the day of Jummah since they are presented to me. (Ibn Majah) Acceptance of duas: "There is such an hour on Friday that if any Muslim makes dua in it, his dua will definitely be accepted. (Bukhari, Muslim) Death on a Friday: There is no Muslim who dies during the day of Friday or the night of Friday but Allah will protect him from the trial of the grave. (Tirmidhi) May Allah Ta'la give us the opportunity to value and appreciate our special day of the week.

riday serves as the weekly eid for the Muslim community throughout the world. It is a day that reinforces the brotherhood of the community, it provides a sense of belonging, it manifests the believer's unreserved submission when he hastens to prayer in the midst of his mundane activities, it accords the believer a spiritual retreat and demonstrates the pre -eminent position of this Ummah. The Friday lecture is a platform to introspect, motivate, educate and guide the Ummah. It is meant to galvanize the Ummah into action. The best day of the week The best day that the sun has ever shone over is Friday- It was on this day that Adam u was created It was on this day that he descended to earth- it was on this day that his taubah was excepted He also passed away on a Friday- The day of Qiymah will also take place on a Friday, There is no creation besides man and jinn except that they out of awe expect to hear the blowing of the trumpet from the time the sun rises In it is a moment wherein no Muslim slave is found praying except that his du will be accepted. (Muslim) It is this day: That bore witness to the creation of man: It is a day that affirms man as the most sublime creation of Allah That Adam u descended to earth: It is a day casts our thoughts to our original and permanent abode in Jannah The repentance of Adam u was accepted: It is day that offers man enormous hope in the mercy of Allah That life on earth will come to an abrupt end: If life on earth began on this day it will cease to on this day That our duas are readily accepted: Allah is willing to give to those willing to ask Revelation of one of the most prized verses of the Quran A learned person from among the Jews said to Umar y: In the Quran you people read a certain verse; if that verse had been revealed to us, we would have celebrated that day annually. Umar y asked, Which verse is that? The man replied: This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion. (Quran 5:3) Umar y said: Verily I remember the day and the place where this verse was revealed. It was already a double celebration for us. Firstly it was Friday-a day of Eid (celebration) for all Muslims and secondly, it was the day of Arafat the most important day of the Hajj. The Pre-Eminent Position of the Ummah Abu Hurairah y reports: We are the last Ummah (in terms of the time line) yet we will be the first on the day of qiymah despite the fact that they have been given the Book before us and we have received the Book after them. Just as this was the original day made obligatory on themBut they disputed therein- So Allah guided us to it- and rest of man will follows us in celebrating the day The Jews on Saturday and the Christians on Sunday.
