THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

This week I was studying on Bible.org and came across a study I decided to share with you. It was entitled: Snapshot of a Healthy Church and was based on Acts 2:42-47. This snapshot shows us the marks of a healthy church so that we can measure ourselves by it and seek to follow its example. Here are a few excerpts from the article. 1. A healthy church is marked by continual devotion to the Lord. Devotion to the Lord means devotion to the teaching of His Word. Devotion to the Lord means devotion to corporate worship. For example, the Lords Supper, prayer, praise and joy.

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: Today, September 15, we will not be meeting as this is the date of our annual Church Picnic. I want to urge each of you to join us for the food and fellowship at Rising Park. Next week, September 22, we will return to our series of character studies with Lydia, The Business Woman (Acts 16:1315). On September 29, our topic will be Ethiopian, Rich and Powerful (Acts 8:26-39). I remind you that communion is available for those who desire it and activities are provided for youth. NEW WEDNESDAY STUDY: On September 11, we resumed our midweek studies. Our kick-off series is Meet The Millennials. In these lessons we will be examining the attitudes and lifestyle of those born between 1980 and 2000. This is the largest generation ever. We, the Church, need to understand this age group in order that we may develop programs to reach them. I am inviting those of all ages to join us in this learning journey. We meet at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm. As in the past, we will be covering the same material in each session. LaCOMEDIA DINNER THEATRE: The standby list remains available on our bulletin board. There is always the possibility that someone may need to cancel their reservation and we will have an opening. Remember, the date is Thursday, October 17. We will be departing the church parking lot at 8:15am for the trip to Dayton. We will be enjoying an excellent buffet dinner and a matinee presentation of The Church Basement Ladies: A Mighty Fortress Is Our Basement. This trip is KeenAger sponsored but is open to anyone who would like to go. The cost for the show, dinner and transportation is just $44 per person. FINAL THOUGHT: You may be on the right track but you will get run over if you just stand there.

2. A healthy church is marked by continual devotion to His people. To have fellowship, we must be truly saved. To have fellowship, we must be together. To have fellowship, we must share together in the things of God.

3. A healthy church is marked by continual devotion to His work in the world. Our main focus should be on proclaiming the Gospel, which is the power of God to all who believe. A healthy church must be a reproducing church. If we are not seeing conversions, then we must each look within and ask ourselves who do I know that needs Jesus.

I challenge you to be fervent in your devotion to the Lord and to His church, so that He uses us to reach many in this city and around the globe for His glory. In His Service, Brad

LEADERSHIP CHANGE
We regret to announce that Larry Bussey has found it necessary to resign his position as Elder. A letter, to the current Elders and the congregation, has been received making his resignation immediate. We do thank Larry for past service.

Last week in Childrens Church we learned about Courage. Courage is being brave enough to do what you should do, even when youre afraid. We know that we can be brave, because we know that God is with us! Many things in life take courage! The closer we are to the Lord, the more courage we will have! Thank You Lord for blessing us with courage in our times of fear! When I am afraid, I will trust in you. Psalm 56:3 I hope to see everyone at the church picnic tonight! I will have some activities for the kids to enjoy while we all fellowship together! October 3rd will be our first Pre-School program! All preschool aged kids and parents are invited to join us at 10:00am-11:00am. We will have activities for the kids and coffee for the adults!!! :) Hannah

If you would like to pick up some of these chairs, they are being stored in our garage across the street. Feel free to stop in during normal office hours (M-W-F) from 7-3 and someone will be glad to assist you.

Book Nook Meeting Monday, September 30, 6:30 p.m.

If you havent attended a Book Nook meeting before now, this would be the perfect time to join us. Our September meeting is our first of the season after our summer break. We read and discuss one book a month, including fiction and nonfiction, always with a Christian theme. Our book of the month for September is Once Upon a Time, by Debbie Macomber, whose books regularly appear on the major bestseller lists. With more than 170 million copies in print, Debbie is one of todays leading voices in womens fiction, and a devoted follower of Christ. More than a story of Debbies life, this is the book she wrote to help us understand the story God is writing with us and through us in our everyday lives. She uses a story structure to illustrate how God works in our life through trial and tragedy, through success and failure. If youve ever wanted to writea journal, a blog, an ancestry memoir, or even a bookOnce Upon a Time is a great starting place to learn how to frame your thoughts. But this isnt so much a book about writing as it is a book about living: a living story your own. A copy of Once Upon a Time has been ordered for the church library. The book can also be purchased through Amazon and Christian Book Distributors.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through gracebased preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and SoonComing King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
