KBR develops high quality, accurate deliverables with CADWorx Plant Design Suite

KBR is a worldwide provider of engineering, procurement, and construction services with 57,000 employees in 45 countries on five continents including business units for downstream, government and infrastructure, services, technology, upstream and ventures. KBR Russia provides engineering services for oil and gas projects in the Eastern Siberia region for such clients as TNK-BP, Total, and Gazprom. Expanding the Kharyaga field in North-West Russia French oil company Total SA (TOT) hired KBR to prepare and issue documentation for the upgrade and installation of oil treatment facilities at Kharyaga field, located in the Nenets Autonomous District (Okrug). KBR has been involved since oil production began there in 1999, and production today is 30,000 bbl per day. With KBR providing engineering services, this latest phase involves drilling additional production and injection wells, process upgrade, and installation of natural gas treatment facilities in order to sell gas and terminate flaring. Addressing quality, time and climate challenges Kharyaga is 60 km north of the Arctic Circle on permafrost soils and with sulphuretted hydrogen (sour oil) conditions, which creates a highly corrosive environment for all process equipment. With these conditions, engineering had to be precise and equipment of high quality to ensure dependable operation. KBR also faced tight project time constraints, adding to the projects demands. Leveraging CADWorx flexibility for quality deliverables Leveraging previously created client studies, KBR used CADWorx Plant Design Suite to prepare a 3D model of the future facility at different design stages in a computerized walkthrough environment, showing various design and layout options to help optimize the design for these demanding site conditions. The flexibility of the 3D model allowed the client to visualize and review the model quickly, which speeded the decision making process. With the help of CADWorx, KBR successfully produced quality documentation quickly and automatically generated accurate bill of materials for pipe components, isometric drafts for the pipelines and other deliverables.
