TRANSCRIPT OF MY SPEECH IN THE FOURTH DAY OF THE FIRST COFFEENOMICS SERIES Honorable Mayor Oscar S Moreno, Reverent Father

Roberto C Yap, SJ and the rest of the University Administrators, Faculty and Staff, the Economics Department, fellow officers and classmates of the Economics Society and Economics Journal Class XA, our brothers and sisters in the Business Economics and Agricultural Economics, friends in the student governance, ladies and gentlemen, Good Afternoon! The task to talk in front of everyone after and before the two most distinguished personalities in our school and in the city is not an easy one. The process and experience before the day of this event has never been that simple. The job to be done in order for this project to have an impact to the greater community will surely be a hard one. But let these things be part of the driving force and inspiration for us to continue and never cease to achieve our goals and aspirations for the others. Allow me to begin my story of how this project has started by first congratulating you as you will have the opportunity to know directly know from the Honorable Mayor himself what challenges, prospects and development plan are awaiting for this city as an emerging growth center! Every semester, the Economics Department conducts a lecture-seminar-workshop to the XU Community as a way of reaching out to the needs of students to know the up to date and current situations in the Philippine Economic System. My first encounter to this project is last year with Mrs Marichu Obedencio as our Instructor. This Semester, as this effort continues, our class, the Economics Journal Class XA is tasked to conduct series of lectures for the month of September. On the other hand, my fellow officers in the Economics Society brought to the entire Econ Community a promise to make ECOSOC alive and effective this year. As XU Celebrates its Ruby Jubilee, ECOSOC is also celebrating th its 5 Decade in the XU Student Government. We must have learned from previous experiences and must focus on projects that directly ensure my fellow students welfare in the most minimal expense at least. To do that, we have started our admin in the Strategic Planning last summer and upon guidance of the Students Activities & Leadership Development Office. We met with our teachers in the Faculty for mentorship. We started making projects differently but a product of our research and surveys. We had the Incentives Membership Card, the Program Orientation, the Academic Workshop and hosts of others. This year, we want to boost student participation, strengthen our linkages and research born projects. As this lecture series was introduced to us by our teacher, my fellow classmates, where a majority are officers, have decided to use this opportunity to collaborate with the Economics Department in battling low morale of some students as they see this course as hard as the wood of this podium. The Faculty and the student orgs must really be partners with each other because we share the same goals and that is for our good as students. As we go along, the best title is Coffeenomics. We are bringing the concepts and theories of Economics to the lay, the students, much like a Coffee that is affordable to everyone. Bringing with this project is a promise, hence the tagline Grinding Problems, Brewing Solutions. We aim to determine major econom ic issues in the city that need solutions, and as young economists, we hope to contribute to these solutions. As we come to the fourth day of this series, we now discuss what are the challenges, prospects and development plan we have as CdeO is already an emerging growth center. We can never think of any other person to discuss this intelligibly than the person whom we share the same dream and aspiration in our respective governance, the person that we draw inspiration in his hapsay government that we also tried to implement in our own student governance, the person that I first met during the Bridging Leadership Workshop with Asian Institute of Management and took picture with. As we listen to his lecture, May we be able to get some insights to it and altogether as Ateneans, will work hand in hand for CdeO to continue to prosper. Our teachers, who are our mentors and mothers, never failed to support us and this project is a testament that as the faculty and the student orgs will collaborate and help each other, the outcome will always be good and helpful

to all. We as students, still hope to learn more from them, the experts and let us continue, fellow students to learn more as we proceed to the lecture proper of this program. Thank you. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
