The Govt. of Pakistan has launched the National Program for Food Security and Productivity Enhancement of
Small Farmers (Crop Maximization Project-II) in 1012 villages of all the four provinces of Pakistan, AJK and
FATA. CMP-II is a project of multi disciplinary nature that is based on participatory approach and heavy
involvement of farming community. The project demands close working with farmers for their training,
establishment of village organizations, their empowerment through revolving fund and initiation of small
entrepreneurial interventions for income diversification purpose. This program has also been launched in six
districts of the Punjab Province and Rahim Yar Khan is one of these six districts. There are 72 targeted
villages in the Dist. Rahim Yar Khan.To achieve the project objectives following targets are set for the District
Rahim Yar Khan.
To meet above mention targets of CMP-II Rahim Yar Khan the following strategy will be adopted during
financial year 2009-2010.
Small farmers are to be organized and empowered at village level by establishing self managed village
organizations registered under Cooperative Societies Act 1925 that will be able to take part in various
economic activities for their better livelihood. In District Rahim Yar Khan 72 VOs were to be registered of
which 20 VOs have been got registered. And the remaining 52 VOs will be registered soon through adopting
the following strategy.

After formation of the VOs, establishment/operationalization of Revolving Fund for each registered VO is the
most important task for the smooth working of project activities. Revolving Fund, established in each project
village, will solve the credit problems of small farmers and it will also generate a common cause of action for
their own economic uplift. For the effective and better utilization of Revolving Fund, following steps have
been planned:

CAPACITY BUILDING FOR CROP PRODUCTIVITY
To increase the crop productivity is the principle component of the project that helps to ensure the food
security and poverty alleviation of small farmers by enhancing the farm income. To facilitate the farmers in
the adoption of improved farm and crop management practices and time tested technologies, following
activities have been planned in the project villages of district Rahim Yar Khan:

During the year 2009-10, 24 small Implements pools will be formed in 72of project villages of district Rahim
Yar Khan with the name of Farm Services Centers (FSC). These centers will be established in a cluster of 2-5
villages, based on the village area, to facilitate the farmers for timely availability and efficient use of farm
implements. Following planning has been developed for successful establishment and operation of FSC:

One Hundred and forty four commodity specific groups/ crop specific groups (CSGs) will be formed in 72
project villages of district Rahim Yar Khan. These groups will include:
• Crop production group
• Horticulture production group
• Livestock production group
• Poultry production group
• Fisheries production group
• Marketing services group
Each village will have 2-3 groups to facilitate the commercial linkages between crop specific groups and
agricultural markets. To achieve this target, following activities will be carried out:

About 5 “Input Sale & marketing Centers” (ISMCs) will be established in the project area of District Rahim
Yar Khan. Each center will cover 15-20 villages and will facilitate the farmers for timely availability of
quality inputs and enhancing productivity of crops through providing advisory services to its clients.

Establishment of 14 Animal First Aid Centers (AFAC)
Jobless youngsters available in the project villages will be given training of cattle farming and animal
husbandry to strengthen the existing livestock extension services and provide animal health facilities at their
door steps.
