INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING
An Individualized Resource Plan (IRP) is prepared for each enrolled student, with the purpose of outlining the support needed to maximize the students strengths and overcome or accommodate challenges. Depending on the needs of the student, resource services outlined in the IRP may include in-class assistance and modifications, one-on-one instruction, small group instruction, study and organizational skills training, and homework tutorial. Benchmark assessments and progress reports are provided to monitor the students growth. The Carroll Center staff, classroom teachers, parents and students work together toward the common coal of academic independence. Carroll Center students spend the majority of the school day in mainstream classes scheduled for their grade level. Younger students may attend small group classes in the Center according to their needs and emerging skills, particularly in the areas of reading and writing. For these students the Center utilizes the following programs: The Orton-Gillingham Approach, Great Leaps Fluency, Making Connections, and S.P.I.R.E. The writing program Handwriting Without Tears is utilized as needed. Older students, those in the 5th and 6th grades, visit the Carroll Center to learn individualized study skills and organizational strategies. These older students receive the balance of their support in the form of in-class assistance, as they prepare for the transition to the Upper School. Enrolled resource students in all grades benefit from attending the after-school resource tutorial, where they receive homework guidance from their resource teacher.

DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS
To be sure that the needs of the whole child are met, a dedicated Resource Counselor is part of the team of professionals serving enrolled resource students. The resource counselor is available to address any social or emotional concerns of the resource students as they meet their academic demands. Additionally, the resource counselor acts as a liaison between the resource faculty and general classroom faculty to ensure all accommodations and services needed for success are addressed. The resource counselor is the primary point of contact and information for parents.

ENROLLMENT
Enrollment in the John Carroll Resource Center requires current psycho-educational testing, (and, if appropriate occupational therapy and / or other reports) and supplemental tuition. The testing should document a need that the Carroll center is equipped to meet.
