4.2 Permanent and Construction Roads 4.2.1 Design Concept The road to be constructed in the project are : 1) Permanent road between the puclic road at Ujanmas and the regulating dam at susup via power station 2) Inspection roads to the discharge valve chamber at the surge tank and the inspection tunnel at the penstock, and

3) Construction roads at the temporary bridge over Musi river.

The roads, bridges and other road facilities shall be designed for the traffic to be safe and smooth during and after the construction works in consideration of the following condition: 1) To carry weight material, heavy equipment and machinery for constuction use 2) To pass 20-30 ton class trailer 3) To endure heavy traffic use for about 5-6 years construction period 4) To endure long use for operation and maintenance, and 5) To be based on Geometric Design Standard of Directorate General Highway BINA MARGA.

As the roads will be mostly constructed on the steep slope in the mountainous area, sufficient slope protection shall be provided to avoid the collapse of slope due to the heavy rain in the rainy season. Drainage system also shall be carefully designed since the insufficient drainage will cause an damage of road embankment and pavement.

4.2.2 Road The design criteria of road shown in Table II.4.2 and Figure II.4.10 is determined referring to that for the road class III, mountainous road specific in BINA MARGA. Pavement of roads shall be made with asphalt concrete by the contractor for construction works of access road and the repair of damage part of pavement shall br made by the contractor for civil works.

4.2.3 Bridge

(1) Temporary bridge A temporary bridge shall be constructed over Musi River at the 200 m upstream location of intake damsite. The bridge will be used for the access to the power station and other site detouring the intake damsite and during the construction work of intake dam and intake facilities.

The design of bridge shall be made for the following conditions : Carriage width......................: 4,50 ton Load .....................................: 30 ton

The load for design shall be in accordance with Section 3.7 Loads to Bridge. The bridge type shall be Berry bridge because the bridge shall be demolished after the construction works. However, the type shall be finally determined taking into consideration the availability of material of Berry bridge and construction and demolishing cost comparing the cost for other type bridge. Abutment and pier design shall be made following the design criteria given in sub-section 4.1.3 Structural analysis. (2) Permanent bridge Permanent bridges shall be constructed in the roads over river or stream where the location is not suitable to construct double box culvert of width of 4,0 m.

Bridge type shall be as given below no 1 2 3 Clear Span (m) Less than or equal to 5 m 5 m to 15 m 15,1 m to 30 m Type Concreteslab type Concrete beam type Prestressed concrete beam type

4.2.4 Culvert Culvert shall be constructed in river or stream in the roads. The following type culverts shall be provided for the roads : No 1 2 Type Box culvert Pipe culvert Size 1,5 m wide and high 2,0 m wide and high 2x2 m wide and high 0,8 m in diameter 1,0 m in diameter 2x1 m in diameter

Structural design of culvert shall be made in accordance with the design criteria given in section 3.7 Load to Bridge and Sub- section 4.1.3 Structural analysis.

4.2.5 Slope protection Slope excavated or embanked shall be protected in accordance with the design criteria, Sub- section 4.1.4 slopes of axcavation and embankment. In case that the construction site for the road is too step to be excavated or embanked as specified, the following type retaining walls shall be designed. No 1 2 3 Type Masonry wall Concrete gravity wall Concrete reinforced wall Application Height H < 5m Slope n > 1 : 0,5 Height H < 3m Slope n > 1 : 0,5 Height H < 5 m Slope n = vertical

The standard design for the above type in shown in figure III.4.11.

4.2.6 Drainage facility Drainage facility shall be provided for the roads to avoid the damage to them by the rain and underground water. (1) Side ditch As shown in figure II.4.12, side ditch shall be designed following the criteria given below. No 1 2 Type of side ditch Masonry Naked Application -Earth excavation section -Embankment section -Sufficient space section -Rock and weathered rock excavation section

(2) Cross drain Cross drain shall be provided at the maximum interval of 500 m long as shown in figure II.4.13. The cross drain shall be 0,60 m in internal diameter with the gradient of 2%. The outlet of the cross drain shall be protected from the slope erosion by the drain water. 4.2.7 Other road facilities

The following road facilities shall be provided for he roads. 1. Guard rail 2. Guard post 3. Road mirror 4. Sign board

4.3 PLNs Quarter and Office 4.3.1 Design concept The PLNs quarter and office shall be designed taking account the following matters : 1) To be used as the quarter and offices for the construction supervisory staff of PLN and the consultant during the construction period of about 6 years. 2) To be used as the permanent quarter and offices for the operation and maintenance staff of PLN after the completion of Project.

They shall be basically designed in accordance with the regulation for the construction of Government Building issued by Directorate General Construction Cipta Karya.

4.3.2 Required facilities The required building and facilties to be arranged in the quarter and office are listed in Table II.4.3 Specifications for building and quarter are given in Tables II.4.4 and II.4.5

4.3.3 Premises road The premised road in the quarter and offices shall be designed as described below.
