3.5 Basic Dimension

A Basic Dimension is considered to be a theoretically perfect dimension. It is used to describe the


theoretically exact location of a feature or a group of features. It is also used to locate datum targets.

Basic Dimensions are the basis from which geometric tolerances are established.

Basic Dimensions are shown on a drawing by


placing a rectangle around the dimension.
