AIM This course provides practical/interactive training in creating professional graphic designs. The areas covered include principles of design, colors, working with text, working with cameras and scanners, exporting files and the different file types. The course is an important step towards furthering studies in the field of Computer Graphics. RATIONALE / RELEVANCE The course provides the foundation for students who wish to further studies in in the field of Computer Graphics. METHODS OF DELIVERY The main methods of delivery will include: Lectures, note taking and practical activities. Facilities used will include: white-board, handouts, PowerPoint slides and multi-media projector, internet and other library resources

COURSE OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: 1. Incorporate design principles and techniques in graphical design projects 2. Distinguish among the various image file formats and digital color settings (Examples: jpeg, png, gif & cmyk, rbg, lab) 3. Explain the characteristics of color, lightness, saturation and hue 4. Use the color wheel to select safe and attractive color combinations/schemes 5. Apply typography (fonts/texts) to effectively communicate messages in a design 6. Create professional designs for business cards, flyers, brochures, signs, billboards, t-shirts, websites and digital devices 7. Prepare designs for the final stage of publication on paper, fabric, vinyl and digital media 8. Produce a personal portfolio of original works

Color Modes: RBG, CMYK, LAB, HSB Image Types: Raster, Vector External Devices: Cameras, Scanners, Screen Capture 2. Elements of Design Section C Elements of Design o Line, Shape, Texture, Space, Form, Color Section D Layout o Rule of thirds, Visual Centre, Grids and Balance 3.
