Diego Santos Year 12 Business Given the objectives of different classes of stakeholders discuss the extent to which conflict

may arise between them Stake holders are the groups or people in a business who have an interest on the business and that have influence in the on the business future. For this question I will use the Chevron problem that is currently happening in the border of Ecuador and Peru. The stakeholders for these problems are chevron head council, the indigenous people living on this area, the government of Ecuador, costumers and Chevrons courters in Ecuador. The problem with Chevron is that it is being sewed for 19 billion dollars for have dropped 18 million tons of toxic waste into land and rivers in the border of Ecuador. For Chevron this is a very big issue because it can make the company go bankrupt. For them their objectives are practically, not to pay the 19 billion dollars Ecuador asks. In order to do this they have made three moves. The first one, Heavy campaign denying the people are really getting affected by their toxic waste1. Second, move the trial to a place where they have bigger chance of winning. Finally, postpone the trial as much as possible. By doing these the company hopes to make people lose interest in this issue and hopefully not have to pay any reparations. Local indigenous were the most affected by this issue. For over 3 decades chevron occupied areas were these indigenous people used to live2. What they want is for chevron to pay for their damages and reparations. They do not have many power in this situation, they have made several protests against Chevron and have supported the anti-Chevron propaganda. They hope to get some money for the entire thing they been through. Also, they have affected the costumer because of their speeches against the company. This has made the profit Chevron gains in Ecuador decrease and its slowly turning into a low profit business in Ecuador. The government of Ecuador has the need to make their people happy3. They have received hundreds of complains about the Chevron incident for 30 years now so they see the necessity to do something. Also, currently the government is trying to drill the Yasuni to obtain some oil, if they manage to solve or put more interest in this problem the people would stop creating so much problems because of the Yasuni ITT problem. To do this the government has created propaganda accusing Chevron of contaminating the rivers4 and also showing publically their full support against Chevron. It is obvious that these stakeholders have completely different objectives. Chevron has already left Ecuador in the hopes of avoiding a bigger issue but didnt work effectively. Eventually in my opinion Chevron will have to pay some money for their damages but it is probably going to pay less. The government will improve their petroleum extraction policies. This problem went to an extreme extent were the company had to left because there is no other option and from now on they dont have much options but try to avoid the attention they are getting from the Ecuador incident.
