New Years Eve

In France, New Year's Eve (31 December) is called la SaintSylvestre* and is usually celebrated with a feast, called le Rveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre. The feast tends to include special items like champagne and foie gras, and the accompanying party can range from an intimate dinner with friends to une soire dansante (ball) which lasts all night until breakfast time. At midnight, everyone kisses under the mistletoe and offers their best wishes for the new year. On New Year's Day, le Jour de l'An, friends and family share make New Years resolutions

The end of the Christmas period is Epiphany,

Paris Fashion Week

Paris is the last stop on a four-city circuit of major

Fashion Week shows from end of December to end of January (after New York, London and Milan) . Paris Fashion Week is seen by some as the best of the best and as such, many of the most famous designers choose to show their work there. The designers shows in Paris are held at the Carrousel du Louvre, which is the bottom level of the Louvre museum. As many as 20 shows are held each day throughout the week-long event.
Anne Favier-Townsend 46

Paris fashion week

Designers put on very theatrical displays: a great deal of planning and ingenuity to be able to pull of something totally new each time. Well-known labels include Coco Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Christian Louboutin, Christian Lacroix Jean Paul Gaultier, Charles Jourdan, Lanvin, Thierry Mugler, Paloma Picasso, Jeanne Lanvin and many others. Also , many other less-known or up-and-coming brands.
Anne Favier-Townsend 47

Paris Fashion Week

In Paris, if a designers show isnt completely

packed, students, press and other very welldressed bystanders are invited in to fill up the room. Occasionally VIPS also give out extra tickets to even the most popular shows to people standing outside who catch their attention.

Cannes Film Festival 14th-25th May 2014

City of Cannes transformed from a quiet seaside resort into the only focus of the international film industry. Over 200,000 people - filmmakers, film fans, and star-gazers alike - descend on the Croisette to take part in the Cannes Film Festival. During these two weeks thousands of films are screened, careers are made (and ruined), and stars from all over the world gather to bask in the limelight.

Attending the Cannes Film Festival

Entry to screenings, and admission to official venues is strictly controlled, with public access to the vast majority of the festival virtually non-existent. Educational groups and French film enthusiasts can gain limited access through the Cannes Cinphiles programme. In most cases, non-industry types just have to be happy star-gazing.
