Note of the Translator

We have been translating Sri Ranganath Tiwaris exposition of Sri Panchanon Bhattacharyas work Srimad Bhagavata Ekadasha Skandha. The following are sixteen extracts - aphorisms - of this work. May all mistakes in translation be forgiven. In the words of the publisher of the booklet: May this experience-oriented, spiritual exposition of the 11th Skandha of the Srimad Bhagavata bring fortune to all Kriyavan sadhakas and sadhikas... Gurukripa hi kevalam, the Grace of the Guru alone is all.

Sixteen Kriya Yoga Aphorisms

1. Among hundreds of thousands only a few - having become one with the true nature of the Brahman - are capable of perceiving the course of His work during subtle vision, at a time, when nothing else is left to be known. The Brahman is experienced only while remaining in the postKriya state. Only he can understand this who has experienced it. 2. In this manner love is born: all the time drinking from the subtle essence of the nectar of Haris name, he becomes intoxicated. In his vision, everything has become Hari alone. He does not call anything the Brahman, nor does he sing the virtues of Hari. His singing takes place in the Omkara. In this state, the rays of a Moon appear before the forehead. He who sees this dissolves in it. This is the state of Vishnu. He who is thus a pure devotee, the ultimate worshipper of Vishnu, he is supreme, he is foremost, he alone is serene. 3. Dont associate with the wicked. In order to obtain knowledge and instruction, associate with the holy. There is no difference between association with the Lord and that with the holy. By associating with the holy, by serving the Lord, one gains purity. Even as the sun destroys the outer darkness, so does the holy man destroy the inner ignorance. 4. To remain in the post-Kriya-state alone is the duty of all. 5. After becoming desireless in the post-Kriya state, the sadhaka can perform all his duties. He will at that time not get attached to anything. You alone are the Lord whose nature is unchanging, who pervades the sentient and insentient, who is bound by nothing. Never have any doubt about this. If you doubt, then even after attaining Him you will lose Him again. 6. When the experience of the ultimate Person Narayana shall rise in the mental plane of the subtle body, the sadhaka will dissolve in the experience of the Brahman. The Eye by which you shall see is now veiled. When the Master unlocks that Eye, then the veil falls off and the Third Eye opens. The Eye itself is the form of the Brahman. 7. Think rightly and then see. You are not what you think yourself to be. You see only a particular character. As long as your present nature remains, you shall not be able to understand, as long as your I remains, you will not understand. The path I have shown, walk upon this path - it is not your duty to understand more. 8. Abide in the sushumna and do Kriya, but let no desire for any aim be yours. Your duty is simply to perform Kriya, just as it is your duty to care for a son in need of affection. Do only as much of other things as will satisfy you. Even after the vision of the Lord one ought not decrease ones work, Kriya. Daily perform the work the Master has instructed you to do. No knowledge is necessary apart from this. 9. All, whatever you see or hear, the whole world consists of the Brahman. In the post-Kriya state there is nothing apart from the Lord. Only he knows this, who knows the post-Kriya state, no other can know it. And he who says he knows it, he does not know. This truth no-one except a Kriyavan understands. 10. The Star that is seen in Yonimudra [Jyotimudra], that is the Cave. Never having seen this,

people yearn for fame and enjoyment in the world. 11. Without devotion no one can know himself. Look upon all as equal in the form of the Narayana who resides in you. After doing Kriya, abide peacefully in the post-Kriya state. Have compassion for others. Give them that kind of instruction in Kriya, by which they may attain the same state. Abandon desires for objects, only do Kriya and remain immersed in the blissful nature of the Brahman. Give up likes and dislikes. Cherish a feeling of great humility. Always abide in the Self. By this all sins are destroyed. The signs of devotion are: hairs stand on end, tears of joy flow, the body turns cold. Through devotion of this kind one gains liberation. Through this the mind dissolves. Words are spoken in a broken voice. Sometimes one laughs, sometimes one dances, sometimes one weeps. By this the mind becomes immaculate. All sins are wiped out. 12. Hearing that Om-sound, the mind is drawn forward and obtains a luminosity like that of a golden crown upon the head. Seeing His beauty, the mind is lost. Along with all the senses the mind is offered to that Lord. He is entirely unique. To Him offer the mind, then merge that mind with space. Then gradually abandon space. In the post-Kriya state the mind rests in the heart. From the navel to the heart, it stays stable. At this time there is no other purpose. By merging the self in the Self, one gains supreme peace and joy. At that time everything consists only of the Brahman. In this way light is united with light. This is the most intense absorption. Only a Yogin of highest caliber can attain this absorption. Its name is nirvana. This nirvana only the supreme Yogins experience. Here no delusion whatsoever exists. Here one is beyond matter, beyond even Kriya. 13. Dont admire injunctions and prohibitions. Dont keep concepts like action and renunciation in your heart; only always perform Kriya. 14. One has to carry three staffs. The first staff is control of speech, the second is pranayama and the third is freedom from desires. In addition to that be equal-minded, control the senses and always perform Kriya. Perceive the one Self in all beings. Being devoid of attachment to objects, engage in all duties. Take instruction in the presence of a Kriyavan Master. The Master is the Self, the Self is the Brahman - know this, that the Self is all. 15. Whatever you see in this world, not one single thing shall remain, not even you as an individual. Only what you were in truth, that you will be. The Brahman was and the Brahman will be. 16. To gradually dissolve in the post-Kriya state - this is the essence.
