BRINE TREATMENT OF ANION RESIN AT STAGE 2 DM PLANT:

1.Check the availability of Anion exchanger beds, connected regeneration system valves, alkali metering pumps, solution preparation tanks, heat exchangers, effluent disposal system 2. The brine solution is to be prepared as follows: Fill the alkali solution preparation tanks 1 & 2 to about 10 % level with DM water .Now slowly add sodium chloride salt with stirring to dissolve. Continue adding the sodium chloride salt & water in parts. Like this prepare a 10 % solution of sodium chloride by dissolving 750 kg of sodium chloride per tank. Now draw around 0.5 tons of alkali in the each tank (roughly 3 cms per tank). This solution has 10 % NaCl & 2 % NaOH strength. Now keep the solution prepared in re circulation by using the alkali transfer pumps so as to achieve thorough mixing. 3. Drain the weak & strong anion bed. by operating the extra rinse valve & air vent valve. After draining normalize the valves 4. Line up the brine solution prepared tanks to the alkali metering pumps. Keep both the pumps at 100 % stroke. Keep the selection at LOCAL/MANUAL.Open their suction /discharge valves. Keep the Regeneration pump selection in AUTO/REMOTE mode. 5.Ask the UCB 1 engineer to charge the auxiliary steam line for DM plant. Line up the steam line to the heat exchangers. Close the heat exchanger bypass line valve (of dilution water) & open the I/L & O/L valve of heat exchangers. When steam is charged open the drain valve of the heat exchangers so for some time & then close it. 6.By pass the interlock logic (of injection valve opening with opening of extra rinse valve of weak bed) by C&I. Close the V5 valve of weak anion bed. 7.Close the downflow manual isolation valve & manual isolation valve at Weak anion I/L & Strong anion O/L.Now start regeneration (Anion) in manual mode & override the steps of backwash, drainage flushing steps to reach the injection step. 8.Check whether the valves V7(Down flow),V12 (Injection valve), V9 (laterals inter connection valve), V16(dilution water line valve) are open . 9.Observe the temperature after mixing T .It will be around 45 degree. If any variance in temperature is there then operate the corresponding valves of the heat exchangers & dilution water too attain the same. Allow this hot water to inject into the anion beds for about 5 minutes. 10. Start both the alkali metering pumps from local. Open the sampling valve & observe the strength by hydrometer (it should be around 1.09 to 1.1) If any variance is noticed adjust the metering pump stroke & dilution water flow so that the required strength is achieved .The temperature shall now normally show around 50 degrees (Increase in temperature due to heat of dilution of brine solution). If any variance in the temperature from the above is noticed operate the corresponding valves of the heat exchangers so that the temperature is attained. 11.Monitor the strength & the temperature of the brine solution being dosed. 12 Continue dosing till both the anion beds are soaked fully & brine solution just starts coming from the air vent line of weak anion bed 13.When dosing is completed flush the alkali metering pumps, brine solution preparation tanks .Ask the UCB 1 engineer to isolate auxiliary steam line to DM plant. Close the

connected steam line valves. Open the drain line of the heat exchanger to evict out any condensed water inside. 14.Allow the anion beds to soak for 24 hours. After 24 hours drain both the beds by opening the extra rinse outlet valves of both the beds by corresponding local solenoid valve operation. After draining rinse both the beds one by one first weak anion (around 1 hour) & then strong anion bed till rinse O/L sample chloride is nearly equal to raw water chloride level. 15.Keep the effluent in re circulation in the effluent pit using the effluent disposal pump. Check the pH & start disposal if in the range (6.5 to 9.5) Neutralize if necessary . 16.Record the details of the brine treatment activity. 17.Normalise the valves isolated earlier. 18.After brine treatment the next regeneration should be done with double quantity of alkali i.e. 1.0 MT.
