Faceplate LEDs
The Faceplate LEDs indicate the T3/E3 PIM state and line status. The following tables describe the states for the CSU Status and Receive Status LEDs.
Table 1 LED State Off On Flashing Table 2 LED State Off On Flashing CSU Status LEDs Indication CSU boot or POST failure mode CSU normal mode Loopback active (line or internal) Receive Status LED Indication Boot mode Receive normal mode Receive failure (see Table 3)
The following table shows the Receive Status Flash Code. The number of flashes indicates the receive state. The LED flashes every 500 msec followed by a two-second pause.
Table 3 Flashes 1 2 3 4 5 6 Receive Status Flash Code Indication AIS (Alarm Indication Signal) Idle (DS3 only) RAI (Remote Alarm Indication) LOF (Loss of Frame) LOS (Loss of Signal) LOL (Loss of Link)
Front panel
The figure below shows the front panel of the Monitoring Tap connectors and indicators. The front panel contains four BNC connectors and five green LED indicators.
The following table describes the LEDs on the front panel of the Monitoring Tap. Under normal operating conditions, all the LEDs are on. When an LED is not lit, it indicates a failure.
Table 5 LED DTE LOS DTE LOF POWER DCE LOS DCE LOF LED indicators Description DTE Loss of Signal (Channel 1) DTE Loss of Frame (Channel 1) Power to Tap DCE Loss of Signal (Channel 2) DCE Loss of Frame (Channel 2)
Back panel
The Monitoring Tap rear panel contains a DB15 connector, which provides a connection to the WAN monitoring system with the installed software. The DB15 connector attaches to a Monitoring Tap cable.
3. Using 75 Ohm BNC cables, connect the cables from the network facility to the Monitoring Tap. Be sure to attach each BNC connector. 4. Power on your PC. 5. Check to see if the Power LED in the center of the Monitoring Tap front panel is on (green). If it is not lit, check the cable connections.
Note To guarantee signal reliability, the combined length between the Monitoring Tap and the network facility must not exceed 450 feet.
WAN Analyzer Card T3/E3 Getting Started Guide Remote Engines window or the remote Capture Options dialog. For details, please see the
User Guide or the online help shipped with the WildPackets software. 1. Open the Capture Options dialog or Monitor Options dialog. 2. Click Adapter in the navigation pane. 3. Select the WAC T3/E3 under Local machine. 4. Click WAN in the navigation pane.
Note The WildPackets software will automatically sense the network speed appropriate to a full bandwidth implementation of the line provisioning you have specified. If you wish to set a nominal network speed by hand, go to the Network Speed dialog. We recommend that you enter the nominal raw line speed appropriate to your connection: for full T3, 44736 Kbps and for full E3, 34368 Kbps. See the OmniPeek User Guide or online help for more information.
6. Click OK to accept the changes. Click Apply to accept your changes and leave the dialog open. Tip If you believe a Capture File has been interpreted as the wrong WAN protocol, choose what you believe to be the correct WAN protocol from the Tools > Convert WAN Trace > (list of protocols) in the main program menu. This will re-interpret the file, using the protocol you select from the sub-menu, and place the results in a new temporary Capture File window.
