Task 1 & 2 (Language Analysis)


Task 1

University Prep Class (writing sample) In task 1, you will look at a students writing and identify the errors. Look at the group profile and writing sample collected in response to an exam task for this class. Look at the parts of the text highlighted in GREEN (A-E), RED (i-v) and BLUE (1-4). For each of these categories: give the category a general name (Criterion 1) look at each error - say what the problem is and what the correction should be. You must use appropriate terminology to do this. (Criterion 2)

Business English Class (spoken sample) In task 2, you will listen to a students spoken sample and identify the errors. Look at the group profile and listen to the spoken sample for this class (see Moodle http://moodle19.iti-istanbul.com/mod/resource/view.php?id=2578). Look at the categories given and find THREE examples of errors from the spoken sample. Also say what the correction should be. (Criterion 1) Before handing in your assignment, please proof-read it carefully. (Criterion 7)

I have chosen to help learner A with the green category, grammatical mistakes, specifically with the Present Simple verb mistakes (omitting the verb; using two auxiliary verbs; not adding 3d person singular s) as these mistakes can be dealt at this level, and should be dealt with in order to enable the learners to write academic essays
