The US military today is being overcome by a deep and very

troubling obsession about China's naval capability. There

are actually no valid grounds at all for such an obsession
yet the US Pacific fleet has seen it fit to poke around all
over the place and thereby create an opportunity to engage it
in a game of brinkmanship.

Such a stance is not in any way strange or alien to the US

military at all. The US conduct of poking around in other
people's backyard or frontyard has been taking place non-
stop in all the seven seas ever since the 1945 victory.

This kind of conduct is very totally unacceptable but the US

military does not care two hoots about it. The reckless actions
of the US military have often resulted in very dangerous political
stand-offs or even outright military clashes in the past.

In 1962 the world came almost to within a hair's breadth of WW3

as a result of the reckless behaviour of the US military. At
least one Soviet Navy sub was treated to a show of direct force
around the time of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis by the reckless
US military. The Soviet submarine of a type that was armed with
nuclear-tipped torpedoes was passing through Cuban waters when
the US military dropped depth charges around the vessel wrongly
identifying it as Cuban. The Soviet skipper of the sub came very
close to pulling the trigger. What a very close one it was.

That incident was not an isolated one.

In 1983, on a number of occasions, American military commanders

deliberately sent air force bombers heading on a direct course
for the Soviet Union only to turn away at the last minute. This
very mischievous conduct was carried out in concert with their
naval vessels sailing up the Baltic in the direction of Soviet
marine bases. These actions spooked the USSR strategic defence
command and resulted in a Soviet nuclear alert. Russian ICBM
silos and nuclear-capable ground attack aircraft in Poland and
East Germany were briefly ordered into a state of readiness.

Ronald Reagan's bombing of Libya was caused by the insistence

of the US Navy that it had a right to anchor in Libyan waters.
That undisguised outrage against Libyan sovereignty was answered
(allegedly) with a mysterious attack on US servicemen in Germany.
US intelligence claimed that Libya was responsible and Reagan
used it as an excuse to attack Tripoli, killing a large number
of innocent civilians in the process.

In 2001 the US sent a spy plane over waters near Hainan and it
ended with a collison with a PLAAF fighter jet. The jet pilot
lost his life and the US and China engaged in a brief 'cyber
war' with a lot of angsty exchanges.

And recently the US military sent at least two very advanced

surveillance ships called SURTASS ships into Chinese waters
to check out China's nascent submarine fleet. These SURTASS
vessels carry state-of-the-art low frequency and ultra low
frequency sonar transmitters and receivers to detect and track
submarines hiding in deep waters. They could also be used to
create a data base on other people's subs. These vessels have
often been criticised by marine animals lovers groups due to
the perceived harm that they pose to whales and dolphins.

Such unabating US military mischief and provocations cannot be

tolerated at all. It is time for China to stand up and say:
No more of such nonsense ! We will soon start kicking your ass
from now on.

To back up those words, China must set up a carrier battle group

for the PLA Navy. The Varyag aircraft carrier could be used to
form the backbone of China's first CBG.

The Varyag is big enough (for now) to put that very tiny bit of
fear into the hearts of those mischievous US military provokers.
However, China must quickly learn to construct bigger carriers
than the Varyag. Aircraft carriers with flight decks of 400
meters or more in length are needed to meet China's future
defence requirements. China must learn to build, use and keep
such naval assets. The US military never does respect any nation
that is weak or insipid.

It is very, very important to never forget that an aircraft

carrier is always an easy prey for the enemy's missiles or
torpedoes and other guided munitions. Hence the need for CBGs.

For a CBG, a carrier will need escort vessels that have primary
ASW and SSW capabilities with secondary AAW capability. The
carrier itself will have to be equipped with its own long-range
air defence system. Multi-purpose guns are a must too.

But the most important asset for an aircraft carrier is the

hull of the vessel itself. The hull of a carrier should be
well-compartmentalised with well designed drainage ducts and
pipes on the bottom flooring to channel water to the rear of
the vessel where it can be handled by powerful pumps. All the
compartments should also have redundant or multiple self-sealing
mechanisms to suppress flooding. A well designed hull will allow
the vessel to withstand multiple hits & endure extensive battle
damage in a running skirmish with the enemy. The idea should be
to live on to fight another day, no matter what the enemy threw
at you.

Aircraft carrier designers should learn from the naval battles

of WW2. Many carriers were lost not because they were struck
repeatedly by enemy bombs but because they were 'floating fire
traps'. Thick armour could mitigate the blast of a bomb but
a very rapidly enveloping fire could overwhelm a ship, even
a big aircraft carrier, in a blink of an eye.

A carrier and its CBG will need to possess a very good local area
air defence. This will definitely require the need for first class
communications facilities. Therefore space satellites must be
utilised to help defend a CBG in this regard. Adequate attention
therefore must be paid to the use of space satellites. This is
a requisite for survival in any kind of confrontation with the
ruthless US war machine in the future.
The aircraft carried on board need not return to the carrier(s)
after a mission. They could be directed to land at a land air
base. Flexibility is of utmost importance. Hopefully, with a
CBG or several CBGs, China will be able to shoo off the evil
provokers. These provokers are the most dangerous threats to
peace and security today !!! They are very, very evil !!!

Always remember that. Always. Forever. And ever.
