(1) Introduction: -

This document describes the measurement method to be adopted for reporting of Number of Calls,
Minutes of Usage, PoI Congestion, A-Interface Erlangs and A-bis Interface Erlangs. The counters
to be used for all above-mentioned measurements are described in detail for all three GSM vendor
equipments Nokia, Ericsson and Siemens. Circles teams are now onwards required to report
these KPIs as per the new recommended methodology.

(2) Standardization Number of Calls

Ericsson: -

MSC TRD method will be used. Counter to be used is as follows: -

NANSW Number of B answers

Formula to be used: -

Number of calls = NANSW

Final figure for individual MSC will be sum of following two types of TRDs (a) and (b) mentioned
below and the data will be for the whole day.

(a) All calls coming from BSC to all destinations
(b) All calls coming from PSTN/Other operators PoIs

Nokia: -

Traffic Category Measurements and Destination Wise measurements are to be used. Counters to be
used are as follows: -

Siemens: -

MSC Trunk Group Traffic Report to be used for the calculation. Number of calls will be the total
number of calls for all the trunk groups. Counters to be used are as follows: -

Counter Counter Description
CCS_wIth_ Answer:
It indicates how often the trunk group was
successfully seized by incoming calls that were
answered at the called terminal. It is triggered
each time call is released.
CCS_wIth_ Answer: D
It indicates how often the trunk group was
successfully seized by outgoing calls that were
answered at the mobile station. It is triggered
each time call is released.

Formula to be used: -

It indicates the volume of incoming
traffic for the trunk group that has been
answered at the mobile station.

It indicates the volume of outgoing traffic
for the trunk group that has been
answered at the called terminal.

Data will be for the whole day.


(4) Standardization PoI Congestion

Ericsson: -

Counter to be used are as follows: -

NUB Number of outgoing attempts
unsuccessful due to congestion
NBIDS Number of Total Outgoing Call attempts

Formula to be used: -

PoI Congestion Percentage = (NUB/NBIDS) * 100

Figure has to be for the Peak hour and 24 hrs.

unsuccessful due to congestion

Number of outgoing attempts successful
where channel could be siezed

Formula to be used: -

PoI Congestion Percentage = (CCU Lost Call/(CCU Lost Call+CCO))*100

Figure has to be for the Peak Hour and 24 hrs.


(5) Standardization A-Interface Traffic

All circles to report A-Interface traffic of each BSC of BSC peak hour.

Designed A-Interface traffic is to be calculated using Erlang B Table as No of Devices between
MSC and BSC at 0.5% GoS.


(6) Standardization A-bis Interface Traffic

All circles to report A-bis Interface traffic of each BSC of BSC peak hour.

Designed Abis-Interface traffic is to be calculated using Erlang B Table as sum of Designed Erlang
of all BTS at 2% GoS in the BSC.
