Africa Business Club at Illinois is a pioneer student organization established to promote business and related activities across different

sectors on the African continent through the University of Illinois network and beyond. After decades of poor performance, Africa has worked its way into the global dialogue on economic opportunity and growth. With its remarkable growth since 2000, the continent has been hailed as the next frontier for opportunity and growth. Political conflicts have declined, economic growth is robust, economic management, governance and political stability have also improved. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, today Africa has about 60% of the worlds total amount of uncultivated arable land and no less than 20 African companies have annual revenues of at least $3 billion. By 2020, Africas collective GDP will be $2.6 trillion and the consumer spending is estimated to reach $1.4 trillion. There will also be about 1.1 billion Africans of working age by 2040, and 50% of Africans will be living in cities by 2030. Africas future growth will be fueled by external trends such as the global race for commodities, and increased access to international capital. Its ability to forge new types of economic partnerships with foreign investors will also be key in helping it achieve these milestones. Our aim is to provide a suitable platform to educate, enlighten and promote investment interests and opportunities in Africa. We also hope to provide support for students seeking business and career opportunities in Africa through access to investors, employers and organizations with a presence in Africa. Membership of our organization is open to University of Illinois students of all backgrounds. Africa Business Club at Illinois is committed to engaging the entire University of Illinois community through the range of professional, educational and social activities we organize throughout the academic year. The pool of talent available at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign make an excellent hub for brilliant minds to discuss ways to further the economic development of the worlds next largest economy. We believe that our club is an excellent avenue to facilitate this goal.
