Last Thursday of every month! The NIST College Counselling Newsletter provides extra guidance for you. It will be sent to you on the last Thursday of every month until you are done with your applications. Please read each newsletter carefully, and save it in the College/University folder on your tablet, so that you can find it easily, and go back to review important information, dates, and deadlines when needed. This newsletter will also be sent to your parents and teachers. This issue has two parts; What You Should Have Done By Now and Whats Coming Up. It is our job to help you make an informed decision, and we know that the more time and energy you put into this process, the better the outcome. What You Should Have Done By Now

University Research
Finalized the Short-List of 6-10 universities. Added the universities to Colleges I am applying to on Naviance. Decided if each university is a Reach, Fit, or Star school based on the entry requirements and your personal profile (IB Course choices, IB Scores, SAT Scores) Completed the Check-In meeting with your counselor to discuss your final Short-List

Testing and Essays

Registered for SAT 1 (Reasoning) and SAT 2 (Subject Tests) in October/November/December (If needed for your applications) Remember that November is the only test date where you can do language tests with listening Prepared for the SAT either on your own, through PrepMe on Naviance, or through a Test Preparation Center in Bangkok Talked to your counsellor if you struggled with the SAT and are considering taking the ACT Completed the TOEFL/IELTS (at a test center in Bangkok) if you are not a passport holder of the following countries: USA, Canada, Australia, UK, New Zealand Started working (and preferably complete) your first drafts of the required college essays/personal statement

What Else?
Completed the Resume on Naviance if you are applying to the US (We are writing your counselor recommendation letters right now) Contact your counselor if you need the PDF sheet with guidelines Signed up for the UKCAT (Deadline: September 20, www.ukcat.ac.uk) and/or BMAT tests (if you are applying to Medical school in the UK) Told your counselor if you attended another school in Year 10, 11, or 12 Signed the FERPA Consent under colleges I am applying to on Naviance, (so that the teachers can start upload your recommendation letters) If you are applying through common app, you should have confirmed these universities on the short list on Naviance. See below for guidelines. Joined the relevant lunch-hour workshops in September on North-American College Essay; The Common Application; UCAS Personal Statement; UCAS Applications; Applying to Thailand and other Asian countries. Contact your counselor if you missed your workshops.

November 1The first date on which students may request that the counsellors send the supporting documents to universities.

Please note that we will do this only after you have completed and SENT your online application and marked Submitted beside that university on your Short-List on Naviance. And submitted by email your signed Essay/ Personal Statement Verification Document as PDF. Please make your request via e-mail. As soon as we have sent the documents, we will respond to your e-mail, confirming that it has been sent. A few schools do not yet accept online submission, so these will be sent by courier within FIVE DAYS. You will receive an e-mail from Khun Thongkorn informing you of the date and time that your package was sent by courier along with all of the information you will need to track this package. Please note that this is your responsibility.
