A HIGHLY respected policeman is facing jail after being found guilty of six child sex offences.
Scunthorpe Pc Robert Hazon (48) was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault and three charges of sexual assault, after standing trial at Leeds Crown Court. He was cleared of two charges of sexual activity with a child. Addressing Hazon, the Judge, Her Honour QC Sally Cahill, said yesterday: I am sure I dont need to explain in the occupation you have been in the seriousness of your position.

His family wept as the verdict was read out. Today, the Scunthorpe Telegraph can reveal that Yvonne Fletcher (40), a witness in the trial, received 4,000 in compensation from Humberside Police after they admitted her sexual assault complaint against Hazon was not dealt with appropriately in 1996. She described her joy after hearing news of the verdict yesterday . She said: Im over the moon

with the result its let others know I wasnt being paranoid. Hes a predator and hes preyed on me and other women. Hazon was a serving officer when he started to abuse the girl whose complaints led to the two-and-a-half week trial. She was just 10 years of age when he took a liking to her. The community bobby and anti-social behaviour officer, highly regarded in his profession, began groping her by the age of 13. The court heard some of the offences took place at the Hazon family home on Lloyds Avenue, Scunthorpe.

On one occasion she said she had been petrified by his behaviour. The court heard the girl had known the family for some time, but at the age of 10 started to notice Hazon would touch her body with his arm. She said the first assault took place about three years later, when he commented on writing on her t-shirt and later ran his finger along the logo. Other allegations consisted of him touching her inappropriately .
