Baltimore Book Festival Traffic Modifications


The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the traffic and parking modifications in effect for the Baltimore Book Festival. The event will be held on September 27-29, 2013 in the heart of historic Mount Vernon. In preparation for the festival, curb lane closures will be implemented along the following roadways with parking restricted: East side of W. Mt. Vernon Place between Cathedral Street and Peabody Mews from 6:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 through 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013. East side of Cathedral Street between Peabody Mews and Centre Street from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013 through 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013. North side of Centre Street between Cathedral and Charles Streets from 6:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 through 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013. South side of W. Read Street between Cathedral and Charles Streets from 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 through 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013.

The following streets will be closed to through traffic with parking restricted: Mt. Vernon Place from St. Paul to Cathedral Streets from 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 through 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013. N. Charles Street between Centre and Madison Streets beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013. The east side of Charles Street will reopen on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 6:00 a.m. and the west side will open at 4:00 p.m. N. Charles Street between Madison and Read Streets from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013. Madison Street between St. Paul and Cathedral Streets from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013. Lovegrove Street between E. Read Street and E. Branch Alley from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013. Morton Street between W. Read Street and W. Branch Alley from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013. Commuters should be reminded that the Madison Street/Fallsway on-ramp to the northbound Jones Falls Expressway is now closed due to construction work. The ramp closure along with the event closures will cause delays and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Commuters who typically use the Madison Street/Fallsway ramp to access the northbound Jones Falls Expressway may utilize President, Gay, and Charles Streets or North Avenue as alternate routes to reach the JFX. Motorists should also consider using alternate modes of travel including the Light Rail and Metro Subway. Transit information is available by calling 410-539-5000 or at www.mtamaryland.gov.
