SubSeaHotStab(SubSeaHighPressureQuickDisconnect)

The Sub-Sea Hot Stab is a high pressure sub-sea connector used to connect into mud systems for intervention / emergency operations; it is designed to typically be ROV operated. This connector has applications on new and retrofit offshore rigs, and enables an alternative entry point in to the mud system. The Sub-Sea Hot Stab basically comprises of two parts; a valve, and a tool which connects onto the valve and functions it. The valve maybe placed on the subsea BOP stack that is accessible to an ROV. The ROV connects a high pressure hose to this valve/connector and functions it open such that the hose is now fully connected to the mud system. This allows intervention work if primary valves are not functioning properly, damaged, obscured, or otherwise not usable. The valve is typically two flapper check valves, providing double-valve protection. They are housed in a body with a flange connection on one end (to connect to say the BOP mud system) and a hub on the other end. The hub allows an ROV mounted tool to pass over it. The ROV mounted tool has a collet system for latching onto the valve body. The collet system is a moving sleeve with a recess for balls to slide into. The balls match up with a groove on the valve body. When the collet is positioned over the valve body, the sleeve is moved such that the balls are forced into the groove on the valve body. Thus the balls are trapped, and the ROV mounted tool is now secured to the valve body. A hydraulic piston then forces a tube into the valve body which opens the flapper check valves. After the valves are pushed open the sub-sea connector is now ready to flow either in or out of the mud system depending on the desired operation.
