management and Relationship Technologies. The first and foremost reason for our
special emphasis on service management education is the emergence of India as the most
competitive source of personnel in outsourcing, design & development and support
services. The other reason is the rapid growth projected in the several service verticals in
India contributing more than sixty percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India.

technologies of the World class Relationship Masters in India. The Relationship Hall of
Fame will offer an opportunity to work with the relationship masters- so chosen.
Besides these Halls of Fame, Jaypee Business School (JBS) will also set up several
Centers of Excellence. Each Centre will Pursue, Publish, Practice and Promote
Excellence in the select verticals of Service and Relationship Management. Three such

4. Supply Chain Management: An Introduction


An efficient Supply-Chain Management system incorporating inter-alia management of
physical movement of goods and supplies is pre-requisite for success in business. In a
competitive environment the emphasis has shifted from providing service at a lower cost
to creating complete satisfaction with zero defects. To achieve this, the role of SCM has
gained pre-eminence in recent years. This course seeks to understand SCM in an
industrial situation, be it manufacturing, trade or service sector.
This course on supply chain management will focus on critical issues of design and
management of supply chain as well as what you should do to ensure that your
organization will lead in future. This will provide you with the essential update on the
future of supply chain, ensuring that you are one step ahead of the game.

5. Learning Objectives:
The students gained an improved understanding of overall Business System through the
following objectives.
a. To develop and understanding of individual components of supply chains
(Such as order management, transportation, network design, distribution
channel management, after sales service and customer service strategy)
and their interrelationships with other functions of the company such as
marketing, manufacturing and finance.
b. To impart analytical and problem solving skills necessary to develop
solutions for a variety of supply chain management and design problems
to develop an understanding for the use of information technology in
supply chain optimization.
c. To understand the complexity of inter-firm and intra-firm coordination in
implementing programs such as quick response, jointly managed
inventories and strategic alliances.
d. To highlight how supply chain can make significant contribution to
business results and how to cope up with uncertainties in supply chain.

8. Details of Grade Components


8.1 On time attendance and class participation (10%)
The Learning Facilitator believes that the on time presence in the class is essential to
an effective learning environment. Attendance will be taken as the session begins and
again if required. Students having 100% attendance will get 5 points while each
tardiness or early departure for any reason or situations including illness will cost you
1/2 point. No exceptions but for certified illness.
5 points you will for class participation during the full course time. Class participation
points can be earned through preparation of the assigned readings and cases,
contributing to the learning environment of the class, raising and responding relevant
question in the class and a positive attitude. Refer Annexure 2 and 3 for grading
criteria of class participation.

8.2 Test-1(T1): Multiple Choice (15%)


Learning facilitator believes in regular testing through graded as well as un-graded
activities. Test-1(T1) will be based on class discussion, lectures, power points and
assigned chapters in the textbook. This will be a closed book test based on
application based multiple choice questions. No class notes, textbook or help-sheets
should be in your possession or accessed illegally during the test. Any violation will
result in disciplinary action.

8.3 Test 2(T2): Descriptive Test (20%)


Test-2(T2) will again be based on class discussion, lectures, power points and
assigned chapters in the textbook. This will also be a closed book test based on
application based real life problem(s)/Case(s). No class notes, textbook or help-sheets
should be in your possession or accessed illegally during the test. Any violation will
result in disciplinary action.

8.4 Project and Reports (20%)

Each project report carries a credit of 10% and the project presentation also
carries a credit of 10%.

This assignment requires you to research on given topic and submit a 1000 words
report (excluding annexure).
Each team gives only one report
Sources for the information will be websites.
Each project report should include the following:
Team number, names of team members and team leader.
Introduction of the company chosen
Five things your team learnt from the research and analysis
References including web-references.
Each team leader will give evaluation of the team members as each member will
receive the adjusted grade as per Annexure 4.
Make your project report both visually appealing and content-rich by including
visuals, graphs, diagrams etc.
Learning Facilitator will grade the report as per Annexure 5.

counting the class discussion.

8.5Term Test (TT) (35%)


Term Test (TT) will be at the end of the trimester and will cover the entire course.
This will also be a closed book test based on conceptual and application based
real life questions/ problem(s)/ Case(s). No class notes, textbook or help-sheets
