David Kjar returns to his native Northfield today to be our soloist in the

Program Haydn Trumpet Concerto. He is a member of Skyline Brass, now


serving a residency in Oregon under the sponsorship of the National
Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage Felix Mendelssohn Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America. The quintet has
toured nationally and is rapidly distinguishing itself in the chamber music
field. Kjar is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and an active
Concerto for Trumpet Franz Joseph Haydn performer of orchestral, chamber and jazz music. He has been featured
and Orchestra in a concert series, performed in schools, organized jazz and chamber
Allegro groups, and coached musicians of all ages. Kjar has performed with the
Andante Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Iowa, the
Allegro Ohio Light Opera Orchestra, and the American Wind Symphony. In
David Kjar, Trumpet addition to performing, he also has been awarded a graduate teaching
fellowship at the University of Oregon, where he is pursuing a master of
Intermission music degree.

Paul Niemisto, conductor and founder of the CVRO in 1979, is a


Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral) Ludwig Van Beethoven member of the St. Olaf College music faculty. He is a graduate of the
Movements 1,3,4, and 5 University of Michigan and received additional conducting training at the
Allegro ma non troppo (Awakening of Happy Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg and at the
Feelings on getting out into the country) American Symphony Orchestra League Institute. While in Canada
Allegro (Merry Gathering of the Country Folk) during the 1970s he was a conductor of the Prince Edward Island
Allegro (Thunderstorm) Symphony and the South Shore Orchestra and was a playing member of
Allegretto (Shepherd’s Song. Happy the CBC Halifax Orchestra. Recently, he has been a regular summer
and Thankful Feelings after the Storm) traveler to Finland, where he teaches courses in conducting, performs in
brass festivals, and conducts bands and orchestras. Since 1991 he has
* * * directed a Finnish-American brass ensemble, “Boys of America,” which
has traveled widely and made recordings in the U.S. and Scandinavia.
The mission of the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra is to present orchestral
and wind concerts to audiences in the region and to provide performance * * *
opportunities for trained musicians. Membership is open to any player in the
area with a successful high school or college level musical background, subject
