01 ACU Fault > General Information Component Location

General Description
Operation The driver airbag module (DAB), located in center of the steering wheel (as in above picture), contains a folded cushion and inflator unit. The main circuit in the SRS control module senses and judges force of impact and if necessary, inflates the cushion. If battery voltage drops too low or power is disconnected, due to impact, the voltage regulator and the back-up power circuit, respectively, will keep voltage at a constant level. Self-diagnosis System A self-diagnosis circuit is built into the SRS control module, When the ignition switch is turned ON, the SRSCM indicator light turns on and turns off, after about six seconds, if the system is operating normally. If the light does not come If the light does not turn on or does not turn back off after six second, or if it lights while driving, an abnormality in the system is indicated. The system must be inspected and repaired as soon as possible. For bettery serviceability, the cause of the malfunction is stored in memory. The data link circuit passes malfunction information from memory to the data link connector (DLC). This information can then be read with the scantool connected to the DLC (20P).

DTC Description
When unable to control SRS system due to internal fault in SRS Control module assembly.

01 ACU Fault > Scantool Diagnostics > Monitor DTC Status Monitor DTC Status

Whenever the ignition switch is ON, or has been turned OFF for at least one minutes, be careful not to bump the Airbag unit The airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or injuries. 1. Ignition "OFF", connect scantool. 2. Ignition "ON"& Engine "OFF", select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode. 3. Monitor diagnostic trouble code and present of trouble code. 4. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs.

5. Is DTC present problem ? YES 1) Internal fault in SRSCM. Replace SRS Control Module assy. NO 1) Intermittent failure, system is OK at this moment. 2) Intermittent fault is caused by poor contact in the connector/wiring harness or non-cleared SRSCM memory after repair. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

01 ACU Fault > Verification of Vehicle Repair Verification of Vehicle Repair

After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected. 1. Connect scan tool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode 2. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs 3. Operate the vehicle within DTC Enable conditions in General information. 4. Are any DTCs present ? YES 1) Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure. NO 1) System is performing to specification at this time.
